Farrah Fawcett Dies at 62 After Losing Battle to Cancer

For Americans growing up in the 1970's, Farrah Fawcett was best known as the girl in the red one-piece swimsuit who adorned the walls of adolescent bedrooms from one end of the nation to the other.

(LOS ANGELES) - Farrah Fawcett in the mid-70`s After a long battle with cancer, American icon and sex symbol Farrah Fawcett passed away today, June 25th 2009, at approximately at 9:28 a.m. at the age of 62. Reports indicate that she was in the intensive care unit at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, with her former husband and lifetime friend Ryan O'Neal, and her friend, Producer Alana Stewart.

James Fawcett, Farrah's 91-year old father, also flew to Los Angeles to visit his only living child. Farrah's only sibling, her sister Diane, died from lung cancer in 2001.

Portland Firefighters Battle 2 Alarm Fire in West Hills (PHOTOS)

Firefighters made an aggressive attack but because of the extent of the fire and questions about safety, they withdrew from the home for about 30 minutes dousing the fire from a safe distance.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Fire in Portland, Oregon`s west hills, 6-24-09 Firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a BBQ grill on fire and extending to the house Wednesday at about 1:00 p.m. The house is located at 13516 NW Glendoveer Drive.

Lt. Allen Oswalt with Portland Fire & Rescue says firefighters encountered several challenges in bringing the fight to this fire.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Salem-News.com On the morning of June 23, 2009, Joshua Nordman walked into the Willamina branch of Bank of America, handed the teller a “threatening” note and walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash. He apparently made no attempt to hide his identity from the security cameras and was apprehended without incident a little more than two hours later at his home.

Under our system of law, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but in this case, I doubt that anyone would dispute the facts as just presented.

Oregon Women Wear Red for `Heartfelt` Healthcare Reform (AUDIO)

One purpose of today's rally is to advocate for a public insurance option for those who cannot afford or cannot qualify for private insurance.

(MEDFORD, Ore. ONS) - Health care reform is a women's issue. That's the premise of the "Mothers' Voices for Health Care Reform Rally" today in Medford, where all the speakers are women.

Attendees are being asked to wear red and bring personal letters to their Congressional representatives, sharing their "heartfelt" health care concerns. Among them: In Oregon, workers' portions of their health insurance premiums went up more than 100 percent from 2000 to 2007.

UN Secretary-General Discusses Situation in Iran with Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi

The Secretary-General told Ms. Ebadi that he had called on the Iranian authorities to respect fundamental civil and political rights, especially the freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and freedom of information.

(GENEVA) - Shirin Ebadi receives the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has voiced his concern regarding the situation in Iran and his dismay over the post-election violence, particularly the use of force against civilians, in his talks with Iranian human rights activist and Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi.

The two spoke by phone yesterday, Mr. Ban urging an immediate end to the arrests, threats and use of force taking place in Iran amid the post-election violence that has already claimed a number of lives.

Landmark Locksmith Bill Passes Oregon House

(SALEM, Ore.) - Locksmith Landmark legislation to license locksmiths was adopted by the Oregon House of Representatives today by a vote of 56 to 3. State Representative John Huffman (R-The Dalles) said the state needs to, “ensure the public has trustworthy, competent, technicians to help protect families and businesses by certifying individual locksmiths.”

House Bill 3127 allows the Construction Contractors Board to do background checks, require locksmiths to pass a test and enact other rules. Up to 2,000 individual locksmiths could be licensed under HB 3127.

Car Bursts Into Flames During Fatal Head-On Crash in Hillsboro

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to search the area looking for any additional patients who might have been ejected from the heavily damaged cars, but found none.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Fatal crash Hillsboro Police report that Tualatin Valley Highway is closed in both directions at this hour between Brookwood and SW 229th due to a fatal MVA. Hillsboro Police and Fire Departments are on scene.

Henry Reimann with Hillsboro Police, says two cars apparently collided head-on. "One car, with a single occupant, reportedly burst into flames upon impact," Reimann said.
