Salem Firefighters Knock Down Blaze at Minto Brown Park

Thick underbrush and grass made it difficult for firefighters to know if the brush fire was completely out; at this point they say the cause is undetermined and it is currently under investigation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fire at Minto Brown Park in Salem, Oregon 6-24-09 Salem firefighters responded to a second alarm brush fire at Minto Brown Park Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The fire was in the 2200 block of Minto Island Road S.

Deputy Fire Marshal Jeff Mack with Salem Fire, says upon arrival, crews found about half an acre burning.

Mack says it was difficult to get to due to the remote location inside the park. "Grass Rigs from Salem Fire Department and Keizer Fire Districts made way into the remote location and extinguished the fire."

Police Identify Man Whose Body Was Found at Clatsop Beach North of Seaside (UPDATE)

Investigators have identified a deceased male who was kayaking prior to his death at Clatsop Beach, which is now considered an accidental drowning.

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - Death investigation Oregon State Police troopers with the assistance of the Clatsop County Medical Examiner, were able to positively identify the deceased African American male that was found on Clatsop Beach about five miles north of Seaside on the evening on June 24th.

The deceased man has been identified as 63-year old William Don Harris of Portland, Oregon. Troopers from the Portland area command were able to contact family of Mr. Harris.

House Freezes Legislators` Pay

Oregon Legislators currently make $21,592 annually. The commission recommended in November 2008 increasing that salary to $25,200.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Money The Oregon House Wednesday joined its Senate counterparts in approving a legislative pay freeze by rejecting the recommendation of the Public Commission on the Legislature’s recommendation for a legislative pay increase.

Senate Bill 778 sets salaries for legislators, judges and other elected officials. By passing the bill, the House effectively froze pay for all those covered under the bill.

Senate Approves Low Carbon Fuel Standards Bill

HB 2186 outlines measures to met energy goals set in 2007 session.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Honey bee Senate Democrats passed legislation this evening addressing climate change and improving energy efficiency, meeting a key goal of their 2009 legislative agenda.

HB 2186 authorizes the Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) to adopt a Low Carbon Fuel Standard to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and conduct a study on retrofitting to improve aerodynamic drag on medium and heavy duty trucks.

The incident occurred in a medical plaza parking structure located at 13240 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard.

Jim Wolf, Public Information Officer with the Tigard Police Department, says the 42-year old Beaverton woman was hospitalized overnight Monday as result of injuries sustained from her attacker.

Soldering Torch Sparks Residential Fire‏ in Hillsboro

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue reminds all homeowners who plan to use open flame devices to always have a fire extinguisher within reach.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Hillsboro Fire Engineer Randy Tegen Fire investigators in Hillsboro say a homeowner replacing his own water heater sparked a one-alarm fire that damaged his Hillsboro home Wednesday afternoon.

Storm Smith with Hillsboro Fire says the fire at 132 SE 41st Avenue was reported to 9-1-1 dispatchers at 3:36 p.m. "When the first Hillsboro Firefighters arrived from the Parkwood Station #5, they found residents outside waiving them in and smoke pouring from the crawl spaces of the home."

Crash on McCollough Bridge Halts Traffic for 2 Hours (PHOTOS)

Two people were transported to Bay Area Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

(NORTH BEND, Ore.) - Crash scene on the McCollough Bridge in North Bend, Oregon 6-24-09 Police say a minor injury three car crash on the McCullough this afternoon caused all lanes across the bridge to be closed for about two hours. The McCullough Bridge is located just north of North Bend and spans over Coos Bay.

Oregon State Police Sgt. John Keeler says today around 12:30 p.m., a silver 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by 54-year old Hackie Bernard of Reedsport, was northbound on US 101 going across the McCullough Bridge.

Salem Police Arrest Teacher for Sex Abuse

(SALEM, Ore.) - 46-year old Susan Christina Alderson Salem Police detectives arrested a Silverton teacher yesterday in connection with an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse with a child.

Lt. Steve Birr with Salem Police says 46-year old Susan Christina Alderson, a 6th grade teacher at Robert Frost Elementary School in Silverton, was arrested Tuesday after a search warrant was served at her home in the 2100 block of Robins Lane SE in Salem at about 10:30 a.m. "Alderson is alleged to have had an ongoing sexual relationship between 2002 and 2006 with a boy who was 13 years of age when it began. The victim was not one of her students," Birr said.
