The failure of the auto industry which went from king-of-the-hill in 1959 to bankruptcy in 2009 can be laid at one doorstep — auto industry management.

But Capitalism as a cultural phenomenon can’t work because people become “assets” and profit becomes the overriding goal—overcoming the standard virtues like honesty, integrity, morality and so forth.

Injury Crash Leads to High Angle Rescue Near Carver (PHOTOS)

Injury Traffic Crash and Subsequent High Angle Rope Rescue by Fire Personnel on Highway 224.

(CARVER, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Police say three people received non-life threatening injuries Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 224 about 2 1/2 miles east of Carver.

Lieutenant Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police, says one of the vehicles traveled off the highway and down an approximate 80-foot embankment from which the occupant was removed by a coordinated effort involving personnel from Boring and Clackamas Fire districts and American Medical Response.

OSU Student Arrested Following Discovery of Homemade Explosive Device near Campus Festival

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - explosive device found logo An Oregon State University sophomore student was arrested by Corvallis police Saturday night on campus when officers found a small homemade improvised explosive device in the man's backpack while he was in the area of a large crowd attending the Flat Tail Festival.

According to OSP Sergeant Vonn Schleicher, Saturday at 10:50 p.m., OSP Oregon State University troopers and Corvallis police officers were patrolling in the campus area monitoring an estimated crowd of approximately 600 people attending a series of live bands performing at the Flat Tail Festival on the Oregon State University campus.

Dr. Tiller, Reknowned Abortion Doctor Murdered in Kansas Church

After years of repeatedly being the target of protests and violence, the doctor was killed while attending church.

(WICHITA, Kansas) - Dr. Tiller Police say a Kansas doctor was killed Sunday about 10:00 a.m. while attending the Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita, where he was a member of the congregation.

67-year old Dr. George Tiller has been at the head of longstanding controversy surrounding his practice of administering abortions. His clinic has been the site of many anti-abortion protests for decades, and the doctor was recently acquitted of several misdemeanor charges lodged against him. Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion.

(SHERWOOD, Ore.) - House fire in Sherwood, Oregon 3-30-09 A quick response by an off-duty Battalion Chief as well as career and volunteer firefighters from TVF&R, limited the damage caused by a fire at 23210 SW Cascade Place in Sherwood this afternoon.

Sherwood Fire Spokesman Walt Peck says a Battalion Chief was working at his Sherwood home when he heard the 9-1-1 operator dispatch a first alarm response at 1:30 p.m.
