Portland Man Drowns in Spite of Rescue Effort

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office wants to remind the public that this time of the year, the waters in the rivers are cold, high and fast moving.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Drowning investigation Investigators say a 21-year old Portland man drowned Sunday night after being swept away by fast moving currents, while swimming in the Sandy River.

Lt. Mary Lindstrand with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says Kirk Alexander Dunn was swimming with friends at the Sandy River near the Troutdale Bridge when he was caught by in swift current.

No Injuries in Plane Crash Near Gales Creek (PHOTOS)

The plane was completing a flight from Moscow Idaho and attempted to land on a private gravel runway when the pilot attempted to avoid a vehicle parked near the landing strip.

Pressure began rising after a court annulled the marriage of an 8-year-old girl to a 50-year-old man in Oneizah last week.

(DUBAI, UAE) - Veiled Arab woman In an interview with Asharq Al Awsat newspaper, the Saudi Justice Minister Muhammad Al Eissa discussed several issues that have been highlighted by Saudi and international press, especially under age marriages and the new changes in the legal system advocated by King Abdullah and he also talked about possible new changes to the law that will ban marriage under the age of 18.

Minister Al Eissa said that one of the solutions to the problem that has surfaced lately in the kingdom was to ban marriage for those under 18.

UN Rights Chief Calls for Aung San Suu Kyi`s Immediate Release

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights prohibits arbitrary arrest and detention and guarantees the right to fair trial and to freedom of opinion and expression, which, Ms. Suu Kyi has exercised peacefully and courageously over many years.

(GENEVA) - Salem-News.com Calling on Myanmar's Government to drop all charges against pro-democracy leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, the top United Nations human rights official today appealed to authorities for her immediate and unconditional release.

According to reports, Ms. Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest for several years, and two aides were escorted yesterday morning by security forces to Insein Prison, where they were charged by a special court.

Second Dramatic Rescue Underway on Mount Hood (UPDATE #2)

Rescue personnel indicated at 10:30 a.m. that the patient is being packaged for carry by rescue personnel to the Devil's Kitchen area of Mount Hood.

(MT. HOOD) - Hog`s Back on Mount Hood A second rescue on Mount Hood was launched this morning for a climber who reportedly fell 500' while climbing on the Hogs Back – at the 10,600' level – on Mount Hood.

Rescuers were going to airlift the climber from the mountain, but Army Guard Helicopter crews say they're concerned with the helicopter rotor vibration that may create additional hazards on the present delicate and unstable surface of the mountain.

Bend Woman Dies in Crash Near Black Butte Ranch

The 79-year old driver was not wearing her seat belt, according to police.

(BEND, Ore.) - 2005 Buick involved in a fatal crash in Bend, Oregon 5-16--09 Police say a Bend-area woman died Saturday morning when the car she was driving struck a tree along Highway 20 near the entrance to Black Butte.

A 2005 Buick operated by 79-year old Genevieve Clare Watson of Bend, was westbound on Highway 20W at approximately 11:12 a.m., passing the entrance to Black Butte Ranch, when the vehicle failed to negotiate a slight right hand corner.
