Reward Offered for Arrest of Salem Area Arson Suspect

The Oregon Council Against Arson is offering a reward of up $5,000 for information regarding the suspect or suspects in this case.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fire, Salem, Oregon 12-08 May 3rd through 9th is "National Arson Awareness Week" and the Marion County Sheriff's Office would like to take the opportunity to request the public's help with an unsolved arson case.

Lt. Sheila Lorance says on December 6th 2008, the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a residential burglary and fire in the 4000 block of 46th Ave NE.

H1N1 Virus- Swine Flu Case Leads to Closure of Western Oregon University

The Polk County Health Department is working with WOU to contact members of the campus community who were in close contact with the student.

One Dead and Three Injured in Crash - Highway 99W (PHOTO UPDATE)

The investigation indicates speed and racing may be contributing factors in this fatal crash.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Fatal MVA Oregon 4-30-09 Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Polk County District Attorney's Office into a three vehicle crash that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to at least two others.

It happened Thursday afternoon on Highway 99W about one mile north of the junction with Highway 22 in Polk County.

Federal Money Will Help Oregon RV Industry Workers

U.S. Department of Labor announces grant exceeding $2 million to assist workers in Oregon affected by recreational vehicle industry layoffs.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $2,047,844 grant to assist approximately 240 workers affected by the closure of manufacturing plants in rural communities Eastern Oregon.

“This grant will allow affected workers in Oregon to access the services and training necessary to allow them to enter occupations in growing regional industries,” said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis.

Iran`s Ahmadinejad Calls West`s Claims of Democracy `Sheer Lies`

Addressing the UN conference, Ahmadinejad criticized the creation of a "totally racist government in occupied Palestine" in 1948, calling it "the most cruel and racist regime."

(SALEM, Ore.) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Western nations' claims of democracy are "sheer lies," citing the U.S. and Israel's boycott of the United Nations Anti-Racism Conference in Geneva.

"The recent anti-racism conference in Geneva ...proved that the West's claims of freedom of expression and democracy were sheer lies," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying.

Hillsboro Police Arrest Child Pornography Suspect

It is believed that there are no other victims associated with this case.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - 69-year old Don Smith faces charges related to child pornography Images of what appeared to be a nude underage female, led to the arrest of a 69-year old Hillsboro man on Child Pornography charges.

It came to the attention of police after a caretaker of the suspect's wife reportedly noticed images of a nude minor female on the suspect's computer.

Salem Officer Uninjured After Pursuit Suspect Rolls Over Patrol Car

His car was smashed to the doorline, but it just wasn't Salem Police Corporal Joe Johnson's day to check out.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Wrecked Salem, Oregon Police car 4-30-09 A Salem Police Officer was uninjured after a suspect who was being pursued glanced off of a concrete barrier then rolled his pickup truck over the officer's patrol car.

Lt. Dave Okada with Salem Police says the incident began at about 1:35 a.m. this morning when Sgt Jeff Waite saw a white Ford pickup being operated in an erratic manner eastbound on State St from 25th St SE.
