Former Oregon Air Guard Commander Shares Holocaust Experiences

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Retired Oregon Air National Guard Brigadier General Fred M. Rosenbaum A former commander of the Oregon Air National Guard recounted his experiences during the Holocaust at Portland Air National Guard Base, April 18, 2009.

Retired Brig. Gen. Fred M. Rosenbaum who is Jewish spoke at an event sponsored by the fighter wing's Diversity Council as part of their Holocaust Remembrance observances.

As Infantrymen we were almost always exhausted. “Shellshock” is most likely concussion replaced now by “traumatic brain injury” (TBI).

FIJI HUMAN RIGHTS WORSENING UNDER NEW MILITARY REGIME

(SUVA, Fiji) - President Ratu Josefa Iloilo The human rights situation in Fiji is getting worse by the day under the newly reappointed military regime, according to an Amnesty International fact-finding mission.

The population is living in fear as a result of draconian measures implemented by the regime. These followed the abrogation of the constitution and the subsequent sacking of all judicial officers and all constitutionally appointed office-holders.

Labor Commissioner Expresses Concern over HB 2430

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - State Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian Today, State Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian expressed concern with House Bill 2430, which seeks to modify state Prevailing Wage Rate (PWR) law and expand the current exemption for affordable housing construction.

The legislation, currently under consideration in the Oregon House, would allow the affordable housing exemption to also be applied to certain “mixed-use” developments with an affordable housing component.

Cougar on the Loose in Corvallis, Oregon

The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife is tracking the cougar at this time.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Cougar Photo by Tim Knight State and federal wildlife officials are pursuing a cougar that was seen in the Corvallis City limits on three occasions since Friday and is considered a possible threat to human safety.

Representatives of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and USDA Wildlife Services are tracking what they believe is a young cougar that was seen Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a northwest Corvallis neighborhood. On one of those occasions, the cougar mauled a domestic cat whose injuries were confirmed by a local veterinarian. The attack took place 300 yards from Wilson Elementary School.

Senate Votes to Expand Access to Lifesaving Clinical Medical Trials

SB 316 will require insurance companies to continue providing routine care to patients.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Clinical testing Legislation expanding patient access to clinical trials was passed by the Oregon Senate this morning. SB 316 will require insurance companies to cover routine care for patients participating in FDA approved clinical trials.

“This legislation is about access,” said Senate Majority Leader Richard Devlin (D-Tualatin), sponsor of the bill.

Father Arrested for Attempting to Rape his Daughter on Patio

The father of the girl was charged with second-degree Incest and third-degree Attempted Rape.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Man in handcuffs Deputies in Clark County, Washington arrested a man for attempting to rape his daughter on his patio Sunday.

Sergeant Bill Roberts with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, says at approximately 4:45 p.m. Sunday, "a tearful teenage brother called Clark County 911 to report his father was attempting to rape the caller's younger sister on the patio."

The Faces of Four Americans Killed in Iraq and Afghanistan

Too many members of the military die without any fanfare whatsoever.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Cpl. Francisco X. Aguila, Sgt. Raul Moncada, PFC Richard A. Dewater and Spc. Michael J. Anaya Four American soldiers have died over the course of the last eight days in Iraq and Afghanistan. For the first time, Salem-News.com was able to publish photos of all of the soldiers, adding a face to a name of those lost at war.

The soldiers all had active MySpace pages and anyone who would take the time to look at their pages, would see the full lives that each had.
