Owner of Monkey in Salem Riverfront Park Incident Comes Forward

The monkey was supposed to remain at the individual's residence, and not to be taken out in public.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Capuchin monkey Salem officers located the owner of the monkey involved in what was believed to be a biting incident Saturday at Riverfront Park.

The owner of the monkey, 53-year old Warren S. Welke of Salem who had the monkey as a companion pet.

Law Will Clamp Down on School Sex Abuse

Senate votes to step up penalties for inappropriate sexual contact with high school students of all ages.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Sex abuse Oregon high school students will be better protected with legislation passed by the Senate this morning.

Senate Bill 48 allows the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission to revoke the license and permanently bar a teacher or administrator who is found guilty by a preponderance of evidence of rape, sodomy, sexual penetration, or sex abuse of a student in grade 12 or below.

Morrisette Bill to Curb Student Athlete Head Injuries Passes Oregon Senate

The bill is informally named “Max’s Law,” in honor of Max Conradt, who suffered a permanent traumatic brain injury in 2001 football games for Waldport High School.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Max Conradt A bill aimed at reducing permanent brain injuries to members of school athletic teams passed the Oregon Senate unanimously on Tuesday.

Sponsored by Senator Bill Morrisette, at the request of the Brain Injury Association of Oregon, SB 348 would restrict the return of student athletes to practice or games when they show signs of a concussion.

Motorcyclist in Sunday Freeway Crash Dies From Injuries

Richard Graybeal reportedly died about 3:30 a.m. today from injuries sustained in the Sunday crash.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) - Motorcycle rider dies Oregon State Police has been notified that a Medford-area man seriously injured Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle southbound Interstate 5 just south of the Brownsville interchange died early Tuesday morning at a hospital.

76-year old Richard Graybeal of Medford, crashed Sunday during a lane change on I-5 at milepost 216.

Law Enforcement for Youth Announces Two Project Grants

A group comprised mostly of off-duty cops announces more help for the community.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Recent grants announced by Law Enforcement for Youth in Salem will be awarded to Sprague High School and Striking Out Meth in Marion County.

Steve Polanski with Law Enforcement for Youth says the grants will help in a number of areas. The group often gets involved in projects that help local kids including the restoration of the Chemawa Indian School athletic field.

Record Western Heat Poised to Break

While levels are not expected to reach critical levels, they will climb into the moderate range during the afternoon and evening hours in a large part of central and southern California and in the Phoenix, Arizona area.

(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) - Weather map from accuweather.com AccuWeather.com reports record highs were set at a number of locations in California and other parts of the West Monday and more will topple during the first half of National Ozone Week. However, a major pattern change is on the way for the West.

Temperatures surged into the 90s and low 100s over a large part of California Monday. The temperature reached 103 degrees at Santa Ana, shattering the old record of 91 set in 1986.

Newberg Urgent Care Doctor Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

The allegations to not involve patients, but detectives want to be sure.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Dr. Lawrence Ronald Litwer An Urgent Care Physician was booked on sex abuse charges yesterday after he turned himself into the Washington County Jail.

Detectives said that the charges are not related to the hospital, but they are concerned there could be additional victims.
