Kuwait Cancels $17 Billion Joint Venture with Dow Chemical

Kuwait on Sunday scrapped a deal to form a $17.4 billion petrochemical joint venture with U.S. firm Dow Chemical , state news agency KUNA said.

(RIYADH, Saudi Arabia) - DOW The cancellation of the deal, which had met opposition in Kuwait's parliament, is a blow to the largest US chemicals firm which had planned to use the proceeds to repay a large part of $13 billion in debt it will have to shoulder once its acquisition of rival Rohm & Haas closes in early 2009.

Man Attempts to Drag Aloha High School Girl into Field

(ALOHA, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Deputies in Washington County say a man grabbed a 16-year old high-school girl by the wrist and tried to drag her into a field this morning around 8:00 a.m.

Dave Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office says the girl was able to escape after calling 911 from her cell phone.

Oregon Senate Votes to Make Horse Abandonment a Crime

Struggling horse owners do not need resort to abandonment to solve their problems.

(SALEM, Ore.) - malnourished horse The Humane Society of the United States applauded the Oregon state Senate for passing Senate Bill 398, adding horses and other equines to the animal abandonment statute.

The bill, originally sponsored by Sen. Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene, and carried to the Senate floor by Sen. Doug Whitsett, R-Klamath Falls, makes abandoning an equine a Class B Misdemeanor. The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 27 to 2.
