Labor Commissioner Announces Service Cuts in Employer Assistance Program

Revenue shortfall forces cancellation of seminars, further delays inpublications.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, Brad Avakian The Commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries,Brad Avakian, announced a serious cutback in services offered by BOLI’s Technical Assistance for Employers Program (TA).

The TA Program exists to answer employer questions about labor and employment law, from meal and rest periods to family and medical leave requirements, and operates a no-cost phone/email hotline as well as selling handbooks and teaching seminars.

McMinnville Man Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography

The man was arrested on ten counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the second degree.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - 50-year old Peter O`Hara, of McMinnville McMinnville Police say they received information that a McMinnville resident named Peter O'Hara, of McMinnville was in possession of child pornography.

McMinnville Police Captain Rob Edgell says that based on that information, officers began an investigation and found numerous child pornography photographs downloaded on Mr. O'Hara's laptop computer.

The UAE signs USD 5-billion in arms deals during a defense show in Abu Dhabi amid a global financial crisis that has hit Arab Persian Gulf states.

(TEHRAN, Iran) - The UAE has signed 5-billion-dollar arms deals during a defense show in Abu Dhabi Major-General Obaid al-Ketbi said the contracts included a deal with Italy's Fincantieri to supply an anti-submarine warship and another with US companies of Boeing and Lockheed Martin for military transport aircrafts.

Some 897 companies from 50 countries participated in the five-day biennial International Defense Exhibition in Emirate's Abu Dhabi.

Police Make Arrest in Middle School Bomb Scare

The student was placed in the custody of the Washington County Juvenile Department, who later released him to his parents.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Handcufffed person Police say an arrest was made Friday afternoon in the February 6th bomb threat at Banks Junior High School. The suspect is a 13-year old student at the school.

Sgt. David Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office says that around 3:00 p.m. Friday, the 13-year old male juvenile was arrested at his home in Banks regarding the February 6th bomb threat that caused the evacuation of Banks Junior High School.
