Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) funding available for states on Wednesday in special Treasury accounts.
(WASHINGTON D.C.) -
President Barack Obama announced this morning in a meeting with the nation’s governors that states will be able to access the first two quarters of Federal Medical Assistance Percentage funding (FMAP) – the federal match for Medicaid – starting this Wednesday, February 25th.
FMAP funding helps pay for health care for the families hit hard by the economic crisis and some of the nation’s most vulnerable citizens.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) -
Detectives from the Clark County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit arrested 30-year old Darrin Eugene Sanford of Vancouver today ar 6:30 p.m., for the murder of 13-year old Alicia Nipp.
"Sanford is one of a number of transient sex offenders living in the Hazel Dell area. Detectives, working in conjunction with Department of Corrections developed information regarding Sanford's whereabouts on Saturday and Sunday," Clark County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Schanaker said.
There are two suspects in this case. They are both described as Hispanic females in their mid thirties, approximately 5'5" and weighing between 150 and 170 pounds.

The Sate of California issued an Amber Alert on Monday afternoon after a girl was abduced in Thousand Palms earlier in the day. Police say the suspects were posing as social workers when they abducted the girl.
Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) Introduces Historic Legislation in Wake of State Fiscal Crisis.

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) today announced the introduction of legislation that would tax and regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcoholic beverages.
The bill, the first of its kind ever introduced in California, would create a regulatory structure similar to that used for beer, wine and liquor, permitting taxed sales to adults while barring sales to or possession by those under 21.
SB 311 raises liability limits for state and local government over seven years.

Legislation that raises caps on tort claims brought against the state and local governments passed out of the Oregon Senate this morning. SB 311 will increase compensation limits under the Oregon Tort Claims Act.
“This is good legislation that addresses a real problem for both public bodies and the public at large,” said Senator Floyd Prozanski (D-Eugene), chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and co-chair of the Tort Claims Task Force.
Every two years since 1990, state agencies has utilized the Oregon Population Survey to ask Oregonians questions that cover such topics as child care, employment, technology use, and many other facets of life in the state.

Today, the Oregon Progress Board released the findings of the 2008 Oregon Population Survey. The survey provides a wealth of data on income, employment, education, child care, disability status, and internet usage.
The telephone survey, conducted during the summer and fall of 2008 also provides information on Oregonians' perceptions of issues like health care access and the effectiveness Oregon's government.
