A surplus became an excuse to transfer wealth to the wealthy instead of an opportunity to invest in our future. Regulations were gutted for the sake of a quick profit at the expense of a healthy market.

Battle Ground Police arrest Graduation Committee Volunteer for Theft of Funds

Police say the suspect collected money from fundraisers to support the graduation party of the senior class, and also collected from the sale of tickets to the Battle Ground High School Senior graduation event.

(BATTLE GROUND, Wash.) - 41-year old Dee Ann Brede of Battle Ground Battle Ground Police Detectives arrested 41-year old Dee Ann Brede of Battle Ground today for embezzling over $11,000.

Brede was the treasurer of the 2009 Battle Ground High School Grad Night Committee. The position is volunteer and not affiliated with the school district.

Group Calls for Sex Trafficking Prosecutions

Group wants justice for children recruited and exploited through commercial sex.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Child Trafficking Shared Hope International is calling for prosecution and tougher penalties for buyers of sex from minors.

It comes in response to the FBI’s rescue of 45 child sex trafficking victims and arrests of over 50 traffickers and some buyers.

Legislative Leaders Propose to Cut $54 million From Schools

Refusing to use tools at their disposal will lead to cutting three days from school year.

(SALEM, Ore.) - School kids in Oregon`s capital city Today, Oregon legislative leaders announced their most recent proposal to rebalance the budget for the remaining four months of the 2007-09 biennium.

The proposal includes a $54 million cut to schools that will inevitably lead to many Oregon school districts closing school doors early this spring. On average, this will mean a cut of three school days this year.

OSP Traffic Stop Leads to 31 lbs. of Cocaine, Two Arrests - Interstate 5 south of Canyonville

(CANYONVILLE, Ore.) - 30 pounds of cocaine Following a Friday morning traffic stop, Oregon State Police (OSP) arrested two individuals on Interstate 5 about two miles south of Canyonville after discovering approximately 31 pounds of cocaine concealed in their vehicle.

Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police says the case and suspects have been turned over to federal authorities pending further investigation and consideration of federal charges.

Pump Prices Dip Slightly after Increasing for Several Weeks

The Oregon average for regular unleaded drops a couple cents this week to $2.10, while the national average falls six cents to $1.90.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas pump Gas Prices are are coming down a little after rising since late December. Oregon's average for regular unleaded drops two cents in the past week to $2.10, while the national average falls six cents to $1.90.

Crude oil prices have increased a few dollars in the past week, but have stayed between about $34 and $48 per barrel since early December.

Salem Man Sentenced in Fatal August Stabbing

Defendant pleads guilty in Salem stabbing case‏.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Judge`s gavel A Salem man named Juan Vasquez-Cruz, pleaded guilty Monday in the stabbing death of Martin Cruz-Bote. Judge Susan Tripp of the Marion County Circuit Court presided over the plea and sentencing.

The story began shortly after 8:00 p.m. on August 12th, 2008, when Salem Police officers responded to 1969 Hawthorne Ave NE, Apartment 28, on a reported stabbing.

Yamhill Man Shot by His Son In Early Morning Altercation

Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree said his deputies were called to the home at 1:01 a.m. by Tyler Huwaldt, who told them that he had just shot his dad.

(YAMHILL, Ore.) - Shooting investigation A 57-year old Yamhill man was injured early this morning when he was shot in the leg by his 23-year old son.

Captain Ken Summers with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, says John Wallace Huwaldt of NW Westside Road received superficial wounds when his son, 23-year old Tyler Carson Huwaldt, who resdies at the same address, fired a 22 caliber rifle during a 12:30 a.m. altercation in their home.
