(EUGENE, Ore.) - Oregon Governor Charles Sprague One day I happened into the STATESMAN JOURNAL newsroom just in time to witness an historic event. An angry politician had cornered Editor Sprague, was haranguing him, and stated: “...AND my opinion is just as good as YOURS !”.

He was reacting to a Sprague Editorial strongly opposing the politician’s questionable costly project.

PETA to Rep. Cannon: Tax Meat, Not Beer

Alcoholic Beverages Don't Need to Be Target of 'Sin Tax,' Says Group.

(WASHINTON D.C.) - State Representative Ben Cannon After learning that Oregon State Representative Ben Cannon is proposing a huge tax increase on beer, PETA fired off a letter to Cannon urging him instead to propose a 10-cent "sin" tax on every pound of meat sold in grocery stores and restaurants in order to keep beer cheap and Oregonians (and their economy) healthy.

PETA points out that meat is a leading contributor to many of the worst health problems that Oregonians face, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer, and it is the number one cause of climate change.

Egypt Gives MKO Camp a Green Light

Egypt has agreed to the establishment of a Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) base in the country as the terrorist group seeks a new home.

(TEHRAN, Iran) - The MKO, which identifies itself as a Marxist-Islamist guerilla army, has carried out acts of terror against Iranian nationals and officials.

Outlawed in Iran, the group was relocated to Iraq and allegedly assisted former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in the massacre of thousands of Iraqi civilians in the 1990s.

War Reporting and Propaganda in Iraq and Afghanistan

The media takes a beating for not reporting on the positive aspects of war; it is a notion that most people who have spent time in a combat theater find ridiculous.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A friend sent an email today with a report from a London newspaper, stressing the success the United States is currently experiencing in Iraq, and speculating as to whether Obama would seek to "take credit" for the success.

The article talked about the media's obesession with death and conflict, and talked about all of the positive things like the rebuilding of schools, that the media always leaves out.

Busy Weekend for Coast Guard in Pacific NW

One incident involved an overturned vessel near Coos Bay; the other rescue saw two surfers rescued near Grays Harbor.

(SEATTLE, Wash.) - Images of Coast Guard rescues by Tim King It was a busy weekend for Coast Guard rescue crews over the weekend in both Oregon and Washington. The story serves as a good reminder of how treacherous NW waters can become, and how frequently the Coast Guard is able to complete lifesaving rescues.

The Coast Guard reports rescuing a 73-year old man near Coos Bay, Oregoln, Sunday. A Coast Guard watchstander at the Coos Bay lookout tower spotted a vessel overturned and a man in the water around 2:15 p.m.

UPDATE: Missing 13-Year Old Girl Found Dead in Clark County

Investigators say it appears that the young girl died of homicidal violence.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Death Investigation Police say that on February 22nd at approximately 1:00 a.m., Clark County Sheriff's Deputies were called to a residence in the Hazel Dell area of Clark County on report of a missing 13-year old girl, Alycia D. Nipp of Vancouver.

Sgt. Scott Schanaker with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, says that upon arrival, deputies were told that Alycia had last been seen by family and friends around 5:00 p.m. when she had walked through a field north of the Goodwill on NE 78th Street.

Police Say Road Rage Suspect `Sicced` Pit Bull on Victim

Police say one man followed another for 30 minutes before first trying to get his dog to attack the man, and then punching him after the dog ran away.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Photo of pit bull used in alleged road rage incident An Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper and Linn County deputy were involved in an unusual "road rage" investigation Sunday afternoon involving two men and a pit bull on Interstate 5 south of Albany.

The suspect and his dog were located by the deputy about 16 miles south of the alleged incident location, and the suspect was subsequently cited to appear on a charge of Harassment.
