Deputies Conclude Murder Investigation at Stomps Residence

Detectives concluded their on-site investigations at the residence of Hazelynn Stomps tonight at 7:45 p.m.
Police say members of the Stomps family are currently free to return to the residence.

Economic Recovery Package Passes Senate

Wyden says legislation will create or save 44,000 jobs in Oregon.
(WASHINGTON D.C.) -
U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) today cast his vote in favor of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The compromise package was the result of a conference committee between House and Senate negotiators and passed the Senate by a vote of 60 to 38.

Albany Police: Armed Robbery Suspect Shot by Detective

The suspect was released from the hospital on Thursday, and lodged in the Linn County Jail on numerous charges.
(ALBANY, Ore.) -
An Albany Police Detective shot and wounded 22-year old Linn County resident Brandon Lee Maxfield Wednesday at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Albany Police Captain Eric Carter, says Maxfield was wanted in connection with at least three armed business robberies in Albany since the beginning of 2009.

Continental Plane Crash in New York Kills 49

A passenger plane crashed into a home located a few miles from the Buffalo airport in New York.
(MANASSAS, Va.) -
Continental Connection flight 3407 crashed at about 10:20 p.m. EST Thursday as the aircraft was enroute between Newark and Buffalo.
Airline personnel and local authorities have already begun working to confirm the number of people on board and their identities.

Fight Continues After Measure is Stripped from Economic Recovery Bill
(WASHINGTON D.C.) -
In fighting for the recovery of employee bonuses to financial institutions that took "federal bailout" funds, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden said he would reintroduce the Wyden-Snowe-Lincoln amendment.
The provision would require institutions taking bailout funds to either repay the cash portion of any bonus paid in excess of $100,000 early – within 120 days of the amendment's enactment – or face an excise tax of 35%.

Today's Senate vote to end the practice of letting Congress dictate the definition of taxable income in Oregon is a great example of the fiscally responsible, prudent policies Oregonians are demanding out of Salem.
On the eve of Oregon's 150th anniversary, we have reaffirmed Oregon's motto, "She flies with her own wings." The legislature will now make affirmative decisions about which federal tax law changes to follow and which are not in Oregon's interest. We will fly with our own wings, rather than be dragged along by Washington, D.C.

Hazelynn Stomps Arrested for the Murder of Her Husband

Detectives say the investigation revealed inconsistencies in Hazelynn Stomps' statements which led to an Aggravated Murder Charge.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Detectives arrested 55-year old Hazelynn Stomps of Corbett at 7:00 p.m. Thursday for filing a false police report and for the murder of her husband, Gerald Stomps.
Hazelynn Stomps is the woman who reported on February 6th 2009, that she had been assaulted by a person she did not know at the Gordon Creek Bridge.

Oregonian Senate Democrats Vote to Protect State`s Right to Set Tax Policy

(SALEM, Ore.) -
In the face of a potential $3 billion budget shortfall over the next 28 months, the Oregon State Senate today voted to protect the state’s right to determine its own tax policy by “disconnecting” from the federal tax code.
“Our goal is to craft tax policy that makes sense for Oregon and her citizens rather than having our destiny determined by the national goals set in Washington,” said Senator Ginny Burdick (D-Portland), chair of the Senate Finance and Revenue Committee.
