Salem-Keizer Educators Voice Concern with Request for Contract Talks

Education Association calls the request premature.

(SALEM, Ore.) - School kids in class On Friday, February 6, 2009, the Salem-Keizer Education Association (SKEA) received notice from the district of a request to reopen the current contract that may impact working conditions for nearly 2,400 licensed educators in the Salem-Keizer school district.

“We think this request is premature,” said SKEA President Jane Killefer.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Michael Phelps Joining a growing coalition of individuals and organizations, the Marijuana Policy Project today lent its support to the burgeoning boycott of cereal giant Kellogg's over its treatment of Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps.

Kellogg's announced last week that it would not renew its endorsement contract with Phelps in light of a published photo of the swimmer inhaling from a bong, saying his behavior is "not consistent with the image of Kellogg."

Police Make Arrest in South Salem Burglaries

The suspect was taken into custody after briefly fighting with a K9.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Handcuffs Salem Police received reports of two residential burglaries that occurred in south Salem Friday morning.

Lt. Steve Birr with Salem Police says both reports came in about noon and involved residences in the 3100 block of Mulberry Drive South and 3000 block of Camellia Drive South.

California`s SLO County Refuses to Investigate Citizen Complaint Against Sheriff

Citizen files Grand Jury Complaint.

(SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.) - San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Pat Hedges In a letter dated February 3, 2009, Undersheriff Steve Bolts snubs California State law penal code 832.5 by neglecting to investigate Cheryl Aichele's citizen complaint about Charles C. Lynch's medical marijuana case against San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Pat Hedges and other department employees.

By law, the sheriff's department has to investigate each complaint and keep these complaints on file for five years. In addition, the law requires all complaints against Sheriff Hedges be forwarded to California State Attorney General's office because Hedges is an elected official.

Multnomah Deputies Attempt to ID Body of Woman Found in Willamette River

There are no signs of foul play; but MCSO is still treating this as a suspicious incident, a spokseman said.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Death Investigation Police say a passerby spotted the body of a woman floating in the Willamette River under a dock at 9:00 a.m. today.

The woman is between 5'2" and 5'4" tall and weighs between 100 and 110 pounds. She is between 50 to 60 years old.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Marion County Sheriff`s Office The Sheriff's Office received information Friday from a Marion County Circuit Court Judge today indicating their office had received numerous calls from people concerned they missed jury duty.

Lt. Shelia Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says the callers said they had received a phone call from a male subject indicating he was calling from the Courts and they had missed Jury Duty on February 3rd.
