Marine Officer Found Not Guilty Over Alleged Role in Haditha Killings

One Marine finds justice in the military court system.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A Marine Lieutenant charged charged in connection with the killings in Haditha, Iraq, Andrew Grayson, was found "not guilty on all charges" by a military court martial yesterday. The Marine officer's defense team leveled the accusation against prosecutors that they were relying on a botched and politically motivated investigation.

1st Lt Andrew Grayson was charged with obstruction of justice, making false official statements and an attempted fraudulent separation from the Marine Corps.

For the three-year old Salem dealership, Electric Wheels Inc., it seems that almost every day brings a new development of one kind or another. One of the more recent is an order from Rock Star Neil Young for his second set of Lithium Ion batteries from Electric Wheels owner Larry Dye.

Marine Who Lost Child From Contamination at Camp Lejeune will Appear in Washington

The culprits are the chemical agents TCE and PCE.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A retired U.S. Marine who lost his daughter to leukemia from drinking contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, will appear in front of a Senate Subcommittee next week to discuss the importance of maintaining a current database of information about the various risks brought about by chemical exposure.

Jerry Ensminger is one of thousands of former Marines, Marine family members and civilian base employees who were exposed to the contamination that is also faced by those who served at the now closed El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Southern California.

University Bids Farewell to Popular Music Professor, Band Leader Philip Cansler

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The University of Portland community is mourning this week the loss of one of its most colorful and endearing figures, music professor, band director, and trumpeter Philip Cansler, who passed away Monday at the age of 54 after being diagnosed with brain cancer last fall.

A memorial service for Cansler has been scheduled for Sunday, June 15th at 4;00 PM. It will be held at First Baptist Church, on 909 S.W. 11th. The service will be followed by a reception there.

CDC Survey: As Many Teens Smoke Marijuana as Cigarettes, Cigarette Use Dropping Faster

Crackdown on Tobacco Sales to Kids Continues to Reduce Teen Access to Cigarettes.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Salem-News.com Two just-released federal reports indicate that regulation of tobacco continues to produce a steady drop in teen cigarette use and teen access to tobacco, with current cigarette use by high school students dropping markedly faster than use of marijuana.

The just-released 2007 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports rates of current cigarette use and current marijuana use among teens in grades nine through 12 in a statistical tie at 20 percent and 19.7 percent, respectively.
