Bat Tests Positive for Rabies in Multnomah County

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system after exposure to a rabid animal.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - bat photo The Oregon State Public Health Laboratory has confirmed that a bat in Multnomah County was infected with rabies.

The bat was found by a resident in an inner southeast Portland home in the early morning hours. The report is prompting public health officials to remind people to avoid bats and to vaccinate their pets against rabies, particularly cats.

El Toro Marines Should be Aware of Possible Contaminant Based Health Hazards

The base closed in the late 90's, and around the same time massive amounts of contamination affecting the groundwater there were discovered.

(EL TORO, Calif.) - Marines at El Toro`s MWSG-37 area in 1982.  Marines from left; Bob Myer, Carlos Lopez, unidentified, Robert Stover and Michael Jung. 23 years have lapsed since a TCE plume was found near the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station and advocates say no Marine veterans, dependents or civilian workers have been notified by the government.

Burma`s Daw Aung San Suu Kyi` Receives U.S. Congressional Gold Medal

Burma’s opposition welcomes award news.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is the leader of the freedom movement in Burma which seeks to see an end to oppressive military rule. The political party of detained Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has welcomed news that she is to be awarded the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal, its highest civilian honor.

"We feel very honored by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s work," U Lwin, spokesman for her National League for Democracy, told RFA’s Burmese service. "To have Aung San Suu Kyi as a leader is like at one time when we had a leader like General Aung San," Burma’s independence hero and Aung San Suu Kyi’s father.

Chinese Detain Two Tibetan Buddhist Nuns Over Protest

The two women are believed to have been taken to the local Kardze detention center.

(KATHMANDU, Tibet) - Tibetan Buddhist nuns In a rare challenge to China's massive security presence in Tibet, two Buddhist nuns have staged a public protest in Sichuan province before being taken into custody, according to several witnesses have told Radio Free Asia.

The nuns, identified as 32-year old Bumo Lhaga and 30-year old Sonam Dekyi, belong to the Drakar nunnery in Kardze [in Chinese, Ganzi] prefecture, Sichuan province. On April 23rd, around 1:00 PM, they handed out leaflets in Kardze town center calling for the return of Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, the sources told RFA's Tibetan service.

Shooting in Dundee Leads to Closure of Highway

No arrest has been made, and police say suspect information is still being compiled.

(DUNDEE, Ore.) - Shooting investigation A shooting last night sent Newberg-Dundee Police officers to Lumpy's Tavern on Highway 99W in Dundee at about 11:45 PM. The highway was closed for several hours and reopened about 7:15 AM Today.

Police say the victim, 46-year old Grant Leroy Herring of Dundee, reportedly entered the tavern with a gunshot wound. He was flown to a Portland area hospital by Life Flight. His condition is not known.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Salem-News.com My recent article engendered what may be the DSM definition which is about fifty words long and to me it is too laborious to memorize or even repeat.

I think and suggest that it was put together by $300 an hour psychiatrists to shield their high paying patients of the stigma of being called an ADDICT. It is much nicer to be referred to as DEPENDENT whether physical or psychological.
