Investigation Over False Amber Alert Cell Phone Text Messages Continues

Anyone receiving similar cell phone text messages are asked to not forward the message as requested.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - False Amber Alert Police say further inquiry into the false Amber Alert text messages being received in Oregon has now confirmed the vehicle license plate number listed in the text message is from an actual Amber Alert issued out of Montana last week.

The two children were safely recovered and their mother was arrested in Wisconsin.

False Amber Alert Text Message Appearing on Some Cell Phones in Oregon

Anyone with information regarding the source of this bogus Amber Alert should call OSP at 800-452-7888.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - False Amber Alert Oregon State Police is confirming reports of a false Amber Alert being received by some people in the Willamette Valley area as a text message on their cell phones. There are no active Amber Alerts in Oregon at this time.

During the last two days, a text message is starting to be received on some cell phones with an emphasis to send it to others. The message reads:

"AMBER ALERT! Albany area-2 little girls kidnapped around noon. Suspect is driving brown jeep liberty. Plate number 43 6519 please send to everyone".

Oregon Health Plan Cuts Mean More ER Visits by Uninsured

In addition, alcohol-related visits by uninsured patients rose by 82 percent and drug-related visits by uninsured patients rose by 173 percent.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - OHSU hospital Cuts in 2003 to the Oregon Health Plan, Oregon's Medicaid expansion program, led to a 20 percent increase in emergency department visits by the uninsured.

The cuts also led to a nearly 50 percent increase in hospital admissions of uninsured emergency patients. The study is published today in the online version of Annals of Emergency Medicine.

(BLACKSBURG, Va.) - Virginia Tech memorial On Wednesday, the Virginia Tech Day of Remembrance will be held in honor of those lost a year ago.

The university has scheduled two official remembrance ceremonies, both on the Drillfield. Gov. Tim Kaine and Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger will speak at the University Commemoration, which will also feature the reading of statements about each of the 32 students and faculty members who lost their lives.

Police on the Lookout for Kidnapping Suspect in Grants Pass Area

The suspect was last seen on foot east of Interstate 5 about about two miles north of Grants Pass.

(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - Police are looking for 49-year old Robert Alan Bufanda of Grants Pass Police agencies are asking for the public's help in locating a wanted man considered armed and dangerous after he allegedly kidnapped and threatened a Grants Pass woman Tuesday afternoon.

OSP Sergeant Jeff Fitzgerald says the suspect forced her into a pickup and drove her to a remote area about 1 1/2 miles from the residence to a frontage road along the east side of Interstate 5 near milepost 61.

(ZIG ZAG, Ore.) - Sketch of alleged assailant It would be hard to describe this audio recording of a man calling police after he and his friend had both been shot as anything less than chilling. The men had spent the day with youngsters snowboarding before they were the victims of a highway shooting.

The public is being asked to help in identifying and locating the suspect responsible for the December 2007 shooting of two men on Highway 26 in the Zig Zag area.

Oregon`s Gas Prices Reach New Record Highs

More pain at the pumps as the Oregon and national averages for regular unleaded reach new record highs today.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas station nozzle Crude oil prices are back up in record territory of about $113 per barrel amid concerns about global supply.

"Gas prices are soaring with the national average and the Oregon average at new record highs." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says the statewide average for regular unleaded in Oregon is up seven cents in the past week to $3.492, while the national average jumps up five-and-a-half cents to $3.386.

(KATHMANDU, Tibet) - Jamyang Kyi of Tibet Chinese authorities in Tibet have arrested a leading Tibetan writer, television producer, and performer in the midst of a major crackdown on anti-Chinese protests in the region, Radio Free Asia reports.

Plainclothes state security officers escorted Jamyang Kyi from her office at state-owned Qinghai TV on April 1st, an authoritative source told RFA’s Tibetan service. "She never returned," a source in Siling [in Chinese, Xining] said.
