Oregon Gets Limited Recreational Salmon Fishing Season

Despite the closures, ODFW managers were able to secure a limited recreational fishing opportunity for coho salmon off the Oregon coast beginning in late June.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - oregon fishing boat Oregon fishery managers have announced a limited recreational coho salmon fishing season for Oregon coastal waters beginning in late June.

The PFMC voted Thursday to close all commercial salmon fishing off the Oregon coast this year from Cape Falcon south to the California/Mexico border. The closure follows a dramatic decline in the numbers of Sacramento River fall chinook salmon expected to spawn this year.

Oregon State Research to Protect Salmon in Jeopardy

The council is seeking to protect what may be a historic low return of salmon to the Sacramento River, a stock of fish that spend much of their time off the Oregon coast.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - newport oregon bayfront Commercial fishermen and scientists from Oregon, California and Washington have agreed to collaborate on a critical coast-wide study to learn more about salmon distribution, migration and behavior in the Pacific Ocean, but an alarming projected shortage of fish this year is putting their research in jeopardy.

Ironically the study, which expands a two-year pilot program began by Oregon State University researchers, is designed to help protect weak salmon stocks.

The PSU-AAUP Executive Council met with members of the PSU-AAUP bargaining team and unit representatives on Thursday to discuss the stalled negotiations. The two major outstanding issues leading up to the declaration include workload and compensation.

Sandy Man Dies in Industrial Fire

An accidental fire apparently started while the victim was washing an energized fuel pump in a solvent cleaning tank.

(SANDY, Ore.) - Death investigation A Sandy-area man died Friday morning from injuries sustained in a fire incident north of Sandy, according to the Clackamas County Medical Examiner. A joint investigation is being conducted by fire, police and safety officials.

A spokesman from the Sandy Fire District says today at 8:54 AM, fire personnel were dispatched to a residential fire at 39120 Hudson Road north of Sandy, after a 911 caller reported being injured.

Bomb Threat Leads to Evacuation of Marion County Courthouse

Deputies make arrest in Marion County Courthouse bomb threat.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 40-year old Jiy Travis Williams of Willamina, Oregon bomb threat suspect The police dispatch center in Salem received a 911 call today from a male caller who indicated that a "bomb" would detonate at the Marion County Courthouse in 20 minutes. The call was placed at 12:55 PM.

The courthouse was the subject of a hostile takeover in 2005, it had to be rebuilt afterward. It seems natural that law enforcement officers in Marion County would take a threat against their courthouse very seriously.

Source of Odor in South Salem Water Has Been Isolated

The city says the results confirm that their drinking water is clean, safe to drink, and meets all drinking water requirements.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Map of Salem, Oregon neighborhood affected by water testing The City of Salem announced today that laboratory results of water samples taken early this week confirm that the water being supplied to twenty-four homes in south Salem is clean and safe to drink.

Results also indicate that the odors noted last week were associated with a new water main which is no longer in service.

Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash Near Springfield

The trooper said he administered first aid until medics arrived and transported the operator to Sacred Heart Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) - Fatal MVA in Springfield, Ore. 4-10-08 Police say a 33-year old Springfield area man died Thursday night from injuries suffered after losing control of his motorcycle and colliding into a highway guardrail near Jasper on Parkway Road south of Springfield.

Troopers believed 33-year old Mark Allen Jones was trying to avoid police when the crash happened, said Lt. Greg Hastings, spokesman for OSP.
