Names on Oregon Health Plan Reservation List Come From All 36 Counties

OHP-Standard, closed since June 2004, is being reopened to several thousand people.

(SALEM, Ore.) - All 36 Oregon counties are represented on the Oregon Health Plan reservation list, which attracted the names of 91,000-plus low-income Oregonians who have no health insurance.

Applications for the health plan's Standard benefit package were mailed March 10 to 3,000 people randomly selected from the reservation list. Applications were sent to people in every county except Wheeler, which has the fewest names on the list at 35.

UN Reports that the World`s Glaciers are Melting at a Record Rate

(GENEVA) - Melting glacier With global glaciers – a vital water source for millions, or even billions, of people worldwide – melting at a record rate, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) urged countries to agree on a new emissions reduction pact.

According to the UNEP-backed World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS), data from nearly 30 reference glaciers in nine mountain ranges indicate that between the years 2004-2005 and 2005-2006, the average rate of melting and thinning more than doubled.

Online Scams Target Customers This Tax Season

Consumers need to safeguard personal information and know the warning signs online.

(NEW YORK) - The International Trademark Association (INTA) today alerted consumers to several electronic scams targeting taxpayers and offered tips for protecting personal information online during the 2007 tax filing season.

Currently, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is reporting several electronic scams that are targeting people as they prepare to file their taxes online. These scams include fraudulent emails that read "Audit Alert," "Changes to Tax Law” and "Refund." The success of these schemes relies on the goodwill and recognition that the public associates with a trademark, and criminals use this to lure consumers to their Web sites.

Violence and Protests Spreading from Tibet into Neighboring Chinese Provinces

Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, remains under lockdown, with a heavy presence of security forces, police, and armored vehicles.

(KATHMANDU, Tibet) - Police on the move in Tibet Violence erupted March 14th after five days of protests, with demonstrators torching Chinese-owned shops and cars in the worst violence in the region in two decades.

Thubten Samphel, a spokesman for the Dalai Lama’s exile government, said multiple witnesses inside Tibet had reported at least 80 people had been killed since Friday, although how many were protesters was unclear.

I just have to ask, what does the frustration feel like? After all the years of hatemongering and nailing people because they have a heart, because they care about the poor, the needy, the notion of an Obama Presidency must drive this hatemonger half crazy, as if he isn't already.
