Americans should recognize that it is possible to showcase the actions of our soldiers today and it is something people want to know more about, in spite of the TV networks' drastic cutback on Iraq coverage.

The best thing about Gary Mortensen's "This is War" may be the fact that politics have nothing to do with it; it is simply an amazing real life story about people surviving a hellish year of combat.

Emotions Stirred in Oregon Over Video on Unclaimed Veteran`s Remains

Identification of cremated vet remains in Oregon continues.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A video produced by a Missouri TV station claiming the remains of 1,000 Oregon veterans sit in corroded jars on dark shelves at the state hospital in Salem, has angered veterans groups around the nation.

But an inside source tells Salem-News.com that the number of unclaimed, cremated veterans remains is well under 50, probably less than 20.

Oberstar Puts FAA and Southwest Airlines on the Hot Seat

SW Airlines remains defiantly opposed to the findings of a committee that says they missed numerous inspections.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Southwest Airlines jet The FAA is being called to account for lax inspection procedures for commercial airliners. Today, Congressman Jim Oberstar (D-Minn.) said he will hold hearings on April 3rd, to find out why Southwest Airlines was allowed to keep flying aircraft that should have been grounded for maintenance and inspection.

SouthWest Airlines' Gary Kelly countered by saying the company has a 37-year history of very safe operations, "one of the safest operations in the world, and we're safer today than we've ever been."

Oregon Home Invasion Robbery Suspects Arrested in Boise and Ontario

Investigators say two other suspects related to this investigation were arrested in November.

(ONTARIO, Ore.) - Police say two suspects wanted in connection with a November 2007 home invasion robbery of an Ontario-area residence were arrested Thursday in Boise and Ontario. Investigators say they are seeking any additional information regarding the suspects that could help in the ongoing investigation.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Mark Duncan says the arrests were made on warrants issued after the investigation of a home invasion robbery that happened last November 22nd in the 3900 block of Highway 201 in Ontario.

Hokanson Will Assume Command of Oregon Guard`s 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team

The photos of Dan Hokanson accompanying this article were recorded by Tim King while embedded with the 41st Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan last year, which Hokanson will now command.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The former commander of the Oregon Army National Guard's aviation unit, Colonel Daniel Hokanson, will assume command of the 41 Infantry Brigade Combat Team, during a ceremony at the Salem Armory Auditorium, on March 8th, 2008.

The ceremony is set to begin at 11:00 AM and it is an event that is open to the public. Dan Hokanson served in various command positions within the Oregon Army National Guard since 1995, after almost 10 years in the Active Duty Army.

Marion County Leads Oregon in Agricultural Sales

The state's number one agricultural commodity – greenhouse and nursery products – continued to do well in 2007, which boosted the economies of Marion, Clackamas, Washington, and Yamhill counties.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - willamette valley farmland Thirty-one of Oregon's 36 counties reported an increase in agricultural sales last year according to preliminary statistics released by Oregon State University.

Many counties reported dramatic growth in 2007 buoyed by high prices and good yields. The latest figures continue to emphasize the importance of agriculture to both the local and state economy.

Former Clackamas Water District Bookkeeper Arrested for Theft

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office criminal investigation of Carol Jean Labrado began in 2007.

(OREGON CITY, Ore. ) - Carol Jean Labrado A bookkeeper formerly employed by the Clackamas River Water District, surrendered herself to authorities earlier this morning at the Clackamas County Jail.

61-year-old Carol Jean Labrado a resident of Milwaukie, was previously employed by the Clackamas River Water District, and is believed responsible for the theft of $57,000 in funds from the District.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Florida and Michigan flags Florida and Michigan could go from having no say in the Democratic nominating process, to deciding who wins the nomination.
