But some of Les Lowen's MySpace friends may have ties to biker clubs or "gangs," and he says the presence of those friends on his "top friends" list nearly landed him in jail.

The World is Watching Kosovo

"Violence not an option," stresses UN envoy.

(PRISTINA, Kosovo) - Joachim Rücker, Special Representative of the Secretary-General Serbia on Sunday, must refrain from violence, the top United Nations official there said today, noting that the situation is currently calm following yesterday’s attacks on two border crossings.

"Violence is absolutely not an option and it will not be tolerated in Kosovo," the Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Joachim Rücker, told reporters in Pristina following a meeting with Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.

Oregon Retailers Receive Final Order on Fire-Safer Cigarettes

Retailers may only sell cigarettes identified with a fire-safer marking located near the universal product code or on the cellophane wrapping on the pack or carton.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Cigarette retailers in Oregon received a final notice last week from the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) to comply with Oregon's fire-safer cigarette law or risk civil penalties beginning March 1st.

Oregon's fire-safer cigarette law, effective January 1, 2008, requires retailers to sell only fire-safer cigarettes. Since then, retailers in violation of the law have received warnings from the OSFM and given the choice of disposing of the illegal cigarettes or have them confiscated.

New Round of Grants Gives $1.3 Million to 20 Schools

The Oregon Safe Routes to School program awards funds for education and encouragement, enforcement, engineering and evaluation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Twenty Oregon schools serving pre-kindergarten through eighth graders will receive more than $1.3 million in grant funds from the Safe Routes to School program, administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Safe Routes to School is a federally funded program designed to encourage and enable easier and healthier ways for children to walk and bike to and from school safely. This round of grant monies is dedicated to infrastructure improvements at schools or within two miles of a school.

Police Identify Victim in Fatal Traffic Crash South of Burns Junction

The lone driver who died was a 21-year old serviceman in the U.S. Air Force.

(ONTARIO, Ore.) - Police have identified the victim in a fatal crash yesterday as a 21-year old Air Force serviceman. Eugene Kem Ardissono died Tuesday afternoon in a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 95 about 39 miles north of the Oregon/Nevada border.

At the time of the fatal crash, Eugene Ardissono was reportedly enroute from visiting family members in California to his new assignment at Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Couple Rescued from Sinking Boat in Clackamas River

The couple was unfamiliar with navigating this section of the river.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Boat rescue on the Clackamas River in Oregon, 2-19-08 Rescuers plucked a Milwaukie couple from their 15-foot propeller driven, fiberglass boat after it struck a rock and began taking-on water in the Clackamas River. Rescue crews were called to the scene at 4:00 PM Tuesday afternoon.

63-year old John Dean Caldwell and his wife, 46-year old Ana Caldwell of Milwaukie, were on a fishing excursion when they attempted to navigate up the Clackamas River from the Willamette River.

Clackamas Deputies Apprehend Fleeing Carjack Suspect

Deputies in Clackamas County appear to have used used notable restraint in not shooting a carjacking suspect.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Crash scene in Clackamas, Oregon after carjacking incident, 2-19-08 A spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says patrol deputies executed "exemplary firearms restraint on two occasions while engaging a fleeing felon -- thought to be armed with a firearm."

Jim Strovink, Detective with the Clackamas Sheriff, says the situation involved multiple attempted carjackings. At one point the suspect tried allegedly tried to steal a car driven by a high school girl.
