Bands Bring Hope to Darfur at March 4th OSU Benefit

This projects represent GI-Net's mission to directly protect civilians on the ground from genocidal violence.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Darfur concert logo The OSU group STAND is hosting a benefit concert to raise funds to increase civilian protection in Darfur.

The Bands which will play at the March 4th event are "Break as we fall" (Rock, Pop, Funk), "The Badfish Band" (Reggae, Funk), and "Eleven Eyes" (Nu-jazz, Funk, Drum and Bass). The event begins at 7:00 PM located at the MU Ballroom on the Campus of OSU.

Nevada Police Seek Clues in Female Student`s Death

An autopsy has determined the remains of a female discovered in a Southwest Reno field Friday are those of 19-year old Brianna Denison who was abducted January 20th.

(RENO, Nevada) - 19-year old Brianna Denison An autopsy has determined the remains of a female discovered in a Southwest Reno field Friday are those of 19-year old Brianna Denison who was abducted from a friends’ residence in Reno in the early morning hours of January 20th.

Police said the official cause and manner of death was due to strangulation making this a murder investigation. Police also estimated the full autopsy report would not be completed for several weeks due to pending protocols that include toxicology and other tests.

One Man Dies in Crash on Highway 95 South of Burns Junction

The highway has been partially blocked during the investigation.

(BURNS, Ore.) - Fatal crash A 21-year old male died Tuesday afternoon in a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 95 about 39 miles north of the Oregon/Nevada border. The victim's name is withheld pending completion of next of kin notification.

Preliminary investigation indicates that today at approximately 2:00 PM, a Ford Ranger pickup driven by the victim was northbound on Highway 95 near milepost 83 when it drifted onto the shoulder.

Oregon Communities Still Recovering from December Storms

The state economic development agency acquires several federal waivers, making it easier for Oregonians in need to access federal dollars for disaster recovery.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gathering storm The Oregon Economic and Community Development Department is coordinating with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to bypass certain regulations to speed aid to people who suffered damage from the December storms in northwest Oregon, OECDD director Bob Repine said today.

"We are continuing to help Oregonians affected by the storm," Repine said. "We are looking at every state and federal resource we have, and then taking steps to speed those funds to the people who need them."

Attacks by Serb Fringe Groups in Kosovo Criticized by UN

Serbian President Boris Tadic appealed to a UN Council to declare Kosovo’s "unilateral and illegal" declaration of independence "null and void."

(MITROVICA, Kosovo) - Ethnic Albanians display a banner during celebration While the situation on the ground in Kosovo, which declared its independence from Serbia on Sunday, remains calm overall, the United Nations mission there reported violent attacks today by Serb fringe groups on two boundary crossings in the north.

The Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Kosovo, Joachim Rücker, condemned the attacks on the crossings at gates in northern Mitrovica, which resulted in the destruction of property, saying "any violence is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

Stolen Car Suspect Dies in Fiery Crash

A suspect with no history of car theft perishes in a fiery 100 MPH crash.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Crash scene photos by Salem Police One person died last night and another was arrested for Driving Under the Influence in a fiery crash that happened on Mission Street SE and I-5.

Lt. Steve Birr with Salem Police says the situation began and ended very quickly. At 11:35 PM, a Salem resident who lives in the 1700 block of Park Avenue NE called police to report that his 1989 Mustang convertible had been stolen. By 11:52 PM, the stolen Mustang was involved in the fatal crash.

WSU Researchers Study Fate of an Ancient American Southwest Civilization

Evidence suggests that the Anasazi fled the region and joined related groups to the south and east.

(PULLMAN, Wash.) - While the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde Using computer simulations to synthesize both new and earlier research, a team of scientists led by a Washington State University anthropology professor has given new perspective to the long-standing question of what happened more than 700 years ago to cause the ancestral Pueblo people known as the Anasazi.

Researchers have long wondered why they abruptly end their 700-year-long occupation of the now-famous cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde and other nearby communities in southwestern Colorado.
