Two Fort Lewis Soldiers Killed in Iraq

They were assigned to 2nd Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.

(DIYALA PROVINCE, Iraq) - Iraq casualties The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers based at Fort Lewis, Washington, who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Chad D. Groepper, a 21-year old specialist from of Kingsley, Iowa, and 21-year old Luke S. Runyan, a specialist from of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, were killed two days ago. Government officials say they died in the Diyala Province of Iraq, from wounds they received when enemy forces attacked their dismounted patrol using small arms fire.

Slur Leads to Boycott of TV Show Big Brother

The United Autism Foundation continues to prominently feature its relationship with Jasinski, offering for sale only items that are connected with him and his appearance on Big Brother.

(CLEARWATER, Fla.) - Adam Jasinski Family Network on Disabilities of Florida, Inc. is calling today for a boycott of the CBS show "Big Brother" because of the actions of one of its contestants in using a slur against persons with disabilities.

Adam Jasinski, who identifies himself as doing public relations work for the United Autism Foundation, refers to persons with autism as "r*t**ds" and, when called on it by another contestant, repeatedly defends his actions.

Ancient Cannons Discovered Near Arch Cape on Oregon Coast

This level of discovery is extremely uncommon. Officials are asking people to people stay clear of the cannons for now but photos are fine.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - Not much remains of the newly discovered cannons at Arch Cape in Oregon.  State history officials say it is a huge find. Visitors to the Oregon coast near Arch Cape south of Cannon Beach in Clatsop County, discovered a pair of cannon buried in the beach sand. Natural erosion revealed the artifacts over the weekend.

Archaeologists say this could very well be an important historic site. Moving, touching, or taking parts of the cannon instantly destroys historical information that could help them understand where the cannons are from and what they mean to Oregon history.

Delta Flight Attendants Snowshoe Coast to Coast to Fight Breast Cancer

The three woman team of flight attendants will raise money to fight breast cancer through the Tubbs Romp to Stomp Series.

(STOWE, Vermont) - A trio of flight attendants from Delta Airlines has taken up the cause to fight breast cancer and is on a mission to participate in all of Tubbs Romp to Stomp Series national snowshoe events this winter.

Presented by Tubbs Snowshoes, the five event national snowshoe series kicked off at Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, New Jersey in late January and continues through March, with the final event scheduled for Frisco Nordic Center in Frisco, Colorado.

United Way of the Columbia-Willamette Promotes Earned Income Tax Credit, Thanks to Bank of America Donation

Funding from Bank of America and United Way will support NAYA in promoting and implementing culturally competent tax preparation services for the community.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Families and individuals who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit will get an extra boost this tax season, thanks to a Bank of America Charitable Foundation grant to the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette.

Bank of America Charitable Foundation will donate $2 million donation to the United Way of America for national asset building and EITC efforts. United Way of the Columbia-Willamette is among 44 United Ways across the nation that will receive a donation from Bank of America to help people obtain free tax preparation assistance and unclaimed tax refunds through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

Wells Fargo Meets Goal to Lend $1 Billion to African American Small Business Owners

The stagecoach was two years early.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Wells Fargo logo Wells Fargo & Company has already reached its goal to lend $1 billion to African American business owners nationwide by 2010. The company originally set the goal in 1998. It will announce a new multi-year lending goal later this year.

"As we celebrate Black History Month, Wells Fargo is proud to recognize the strength and growth of the African American business community," said Brenda Ross-Dulan, senior vice president and national spokesperson for Wells Fargo's African American Business Services program.

Oregon`s Lorraine Kerwood Named Winner of National Hometown Hero Award

Kerwood Will Receive $100,000 for the Charity of Her Choice.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - Eight years ago, Lorraine Kerwood turned a passion for tinkering with and repairing electronics into a flourishing passion for helping others.

She established an electronics recycling and distribution center, NextStep, which brings refurbished computers and electronics to disadvantaged communities. Volvo today announced that Kerwood, of Eugene, Oregon, has been named one of the top three winning heroes in the 6th Annual Volvo for life Awards. Kerwood is being recognized in the program's Environment category and will receive a $100,000 contribution to the charity of her choice.
