Amber Alert Issued for Texas Boy

The suspect vehicle is a Volkswagen Jetta with dark tinted windows.

(AUSTIN, Texas) - 5-year old Adrian Jaimes The Austin Texas Police Department has issued an Amber alert for a boy who they say was kidnapped in North Austin on Thursday morning.

The boy is Adrian Jaimes, a 5-year old Hispanic male. He is about 4 feet tall and weighs about 50 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Adrian was last seen wearing a green jacket, black t-shirt and dark blue pants. He may have a bloody nose from allergies.

Recruitment Underway for Volunteer Firefighters

Tennessee Takes a Deadly Beating from Tornadoes

One survivor, an 11-month old baby boy, surprised rescue workers who assumed he was a doll, until he moved.

(NASHVILLE) - Tennessee tornado destruction Tennessee experienced at least two waves of severe weather that ranged from high-winds and hail to deadly tornadoes. As of 7:15 PM Wednesday, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reported 31 confirmed fatalities related to the storm activity.

Those deaths, recorded by the Tennessee Department of Health, occurred in the following counties: Shelby, Fayette, Hardin, Macon, Madison, Sumner and Trousdale. More than 149 people have been reported as being injured and one person is presumed missing.

Bush Lawyers Fight Tooth and Nail to Deny VA Healthcare Benefits

Veterans not "entitled" to mental health care, U.S. lawyers argue

(SALEM, Ore.) - President George W. Bush President Bush says veterans have no legal right to specific types of medical care. The information is coming from documents related to a civil lawsuit filed by veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan war who claim the government is illegally denying mental health treatment to some troops.

The arguments, filed Wednesday in a San Francisco federal court, "strike at the heart of a lawsuit filed on behalf of veterans that claims the health care system for returning troops provides little recourse when the government rejects their medical claims," the San Francisco Chronicle reported today.

Military Funeral Honors Group of 35 Veterans in Salem (VIDEO)

Future events will continue throughout the state in order to honor those who, for whatever reason, did not receive military honors at the time of their funeral.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com The Oregon National Guard hosted a ceremony to pay respects to a number of veterans at the Salem Armory in Salem, Oregon Wednesday.

The Oregon National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team joined representatives from Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs, and leaders of the Oregon National Guard for the 30-minute, indoor ceremony.

Two Stabbed in Bar Fight, Dayton Man Arrested

Both victims underwent surgery and were admitted to the hospital.

(DAYTON, Ore.) - Stabbing investigation art Two Yamhill County men are hospitalized following a fight at the Ferry Street Landing Tavern in Dayton where they are alleged to have been stabbed by a third man who was arrested later last night. Yamhill County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the fight at 400 Ferry Street Wednesday evening at 9:36 PM.

The two victims, 52-year old Yasar Uzun of Newberg, and 45-year old Robert Danielson of McMinnville were transported via ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville.

Keizer CERT Team Members Respond to Snowbound Detroit

The coordinator for Marion County CERT groups hopes new CERT teams are formed.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - CERT logo The Keizer Citizen Emergency Response Team has been dispatched to the Idanha and Detroit area east of Salem to assist residents who are under feet of snow. The group is trained through the Keizer Fire Department and their recent activation to service was called by Marion County Emergency Management to help with relief efforts for homeowner's in regions.

Stephanie Cooke with the Keizer CERT Team says the people really need the assistance, "At this point, residents have no one to help remove snow from roofs that can sometimes be large amounts as we saw today in Idanha. Other relief groups are unwilling to help because of liabilities and lack of training."

Smith, Brown Announce New Legislation To Help Rural Students Attend College

The Brown-Smith legislation would address the lagging participation by rural students in higher education that inhibits the growth and training of the workforce.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon U.S. Senators Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced legislation last week to help students in rural communities attend college. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in Oregon, only 15.5 percent of rural students graduated from college in 2000.

The Senators stressed that creating a better-trained workforce is important for economic development in rural areas. In Ohio’s rural counties, only 12 percent of students graduated from college in 2000.
