BigBrick.com Offers Oregon Home Sellers Money-Saving Solutions

The Web site provides a free listing, free legal paperwork and even a free sign for home owners selling their home without a real estate agent.

(BEND, Ore.) - A BigBrick.com sign directs home shoppers to the free Web site. When Shawn and Molly Kelly’s Bend, Oregon home failed to sell after six months on the market with a realtor, they decided to drop the price and sell it on their own. They enlisted help from the free service BigBrick.com that included listing their home for nothing on the company's Web site.

Two days later, a buyer saw their house on BigBrick.com and made an offer. The closing is next month.

Police Name Man in Freeway Cocaine Arrest

The approximately 66 pounds of cocaine has an estimated value of $600,000.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 26-year old David Chico Monjaraz III was arrested on several charges relating to a freeway traffic stop Saturday. A Washington State man was arrested Saturday afternoon when an Oregon State Police trooper reportedly discovered 31 kilos of cocaine concealed in a sport utility vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 in the Salem area.

State police have released the man's name and age, but no further information is being released due to the ongoing investigation, OSP Spokesman Greg Hastings said.

(KABUL, Afghanistan) - Photo of Afghan woman and her children by Tim King The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Government of Afghanistan today urged the international community to fund a sharp increase in needed food assistance for poor persons and families in Afghanistan who cannot afford to pay soaring local prices for wheat, a staple of the Afghan diet.

Global food prices, particularly of wheat, have risen to all-time highs in the last 12 months, and have adversely affected millions of Afghans, for whom wheat flour is the food staple used in making bread.

The Willamette Chapter has spent over $50,000 responding to local house fires and weather related disasters since the beginning the current fiscal year on a budget of $47,800. With five months left in the fiscal year, the chapter is relying heavily on its Fifth Annual Red & White Gala fundraiser to raise desperately needed funds for the Local Disaster Relief Fund.

Taxpayers Have a New Way to Pay Taxes Electronically

You can pay taxes as far back as 10 years.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Taxpayers can electronically pay their personal income taxes directly from their checking or savings account, thanks to a partnership between the Revenue department and U.S. Bank.

From the department's website, you can instruct U.S. Bank to transfer money from your checking or savings account to the department. You don't need to have a U.S. Bank account to do it.

Used Phone Donations from Oregon Help Company Provide $1.7 Million in Cash Grants and 60 Million Minutes of Service to Help Victims of Domestic Violence

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - cell phones Verizon Wireless said today that consumers and businesses in Oregon donated 15,048 old and no-longer-used wireless phones in 2007 to the company’s HopeLine recycling and reuse program.

The company collected 1,068,000 phones across the country – a record number representing the most phones collected in one year by HopeLine, an increase of 17 percent from last year’s total of 910,000 phones.
