Gresham Woman Dies in Early Morning Fire

Investigators say a space heater was placed too close to combustible materials.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Fatal fire investigation Firefighters in Gresham found a woman dead this morning as a result of a house fire in a single family residence at 531 NE 183rd Avenue. A spokesperson for Gresham Fire says they responded to a fire in a one story residence at 3:00 AM this morning, and found a 39-year old female victim in a front bedroom.

Additional casualties included three dogs and one cat. They say that pending the Medical Examiner's report, the victim appeared to have succumbed to smoke inhalation as was true of the animals.

Third Victim Identified in Triple Fatal Crash Near Elsie

Investigating troopers advise conditions at the time of the crash were not icy and alcohol/drugs were not factors.

(ELSIE, Ore.) - Triple fatal crash near Elsie, Oregon, 1-20-08 Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation into Sunday afternoon's triple fatal traffic crash on Highway 26 east of Elsie. Next of kin notification has been completed on the third victim whose identity is now being released.

They say the right rear female passenger in the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta is identified as 23-year old Carmen Edith Lopez of Gardena, California. Ms. Lopez, who was not using safety restraints, is the wife of critically injured passenger, 21-year old Miguel Angel Martinez-Butron.

This first show was an experimental program but we received one call in and at least one more that we missed. We are very pleased to introduce this new side of Salem-News.com and we look forward to input on how to make it even better.

The idea has been on the table for a long time and we have featured audio clips at different times over the last three and a half years, but this is different, this is actual live radio over the Internet.

Dreyer`s Issues Voluntary Recall of Two Ice Cream Flavors

Less than 90 mislabeled cartons are believed to be in the marketplace. These products are sold in various retail grocery stores.

(OAKLAND, Calif.) - Salem-News.com Consumer Report Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream is voluntarily recalling 90 cartons of Dreyer's Slow Churned(R) Light Caramel Delight ice cream and Slow Churned Light Butter Pecan ice cream distributed in Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming, because the ice cream may contain pecans not identified on the label.

The potentially affected cartons are the 1.75-quart size of Dreyer's Slow Churned Light Caramel Delight and Slow Churned Light Butter Pecan ice cream. The sides of the Slow Churned Light cartons identify the flavor as Caramel Delight, but the carton lids identify it as Butter Pecan.

Sweet Home Man Arrested for Assault

The three-month old baby is still in the care of Emmanuel Hospital in the pediatrics intensive care unit.

(SWEET HOME, Ore.) - Michael Henthorne was arrested on January 18th and lodged in the Benton County Corrections facility on a charge of Assault in the First Degree. A Sweet Home man is in custody on a child abuse allegation that apparently involved an infant choking on a napkin. Deputies were dispatched to the emergency room late in the evening on January 16th for a report of a possible child abuse incident.

Stubborn Storm in the West Could Bring Snow to SF and LA (VIDEO)

More cold for Oregon and the rest of the west coast.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Accuweather.com weather map Weather forecasters say cold air and a stubborn storm will linger across the West through much of the week, resulting in rain, snow, and below-normal temperatures.

Arctic air continues to grip the Intermountain West and the Pacific Northwest. On Monday, Seattle, Washington broke its daily low temperature record with a reading of 26 degrees, three degrees colder than the previous mark set in 1991.
