Heath Ledger Dead at 28

In 2005, Ledger received a "Best Actor in a Drama" Golden Globe nomination for his acclaimed performance in Brokeback Mountain.

(NEW YORK) - Heath Andrew Ledger Heath Andrew Ledger, a native of Perth, Australia, was found dead today in his apartment in downtown Manhattan New York City police said. Ledger was 28.

According to police, at 3:31 PM, a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Ledger. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Ledger unconscious.

Thompson Bows Out of Republican Presidential Race

Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals.

(NAPLES, Fla. ) - Fred Thompson Former Tennessee Senator and Hollywood actor Fred Thompson today quit the Republican presidential race after poor finishes in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

He announced his withdrawal following another bad showing in Saturday's primary in South Carolina. Thompson finished had third in a state that he had said he needed to win. Thompson supported Senator John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Hillary Clinton Today, Hillary Clinton received the endorsements of prominent Puerto Rican political figures, Democratic Committee Chair Roberto Prats Palerm, and Ramon Luis Lugo.

The campaign named Prats Palerm Co-Chair of its National Hispanic Leadership Council and Luis Lugo as an advisor to the campaign in Puerto Rico. In 2004, Prats ran as a candidate for Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner in the United States for the Popular Democratic Party.

OCPP Finds that Cutting Income Tax on Capital Gains Would Harm Nearly All Oregonians

"Oregon's most serious economic problem is not sub par growth, but the growing gap between the haves and have-nots" - OCPP analyst Michael Leachman.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Salem-News.com With the state having begun a top-to-bottom review of its tax system, a report released today makes the case that cutting the existing income tax on capital gains -- an idea often bandied about -- would harm all but the wealthiest Oregonians.

The report, prepared by the Oregon Center for Public Policy, identified seven reasons why giving special treatment to income from capital gains is a "terrible idea." It called the income tax on capital gains "the best player on the income tax team," generating strong revenue for the state during good economic times and providing support during downturns.

Oregon already has the most restrictive medical marijuana program in the nation. Advocate Dan Keys says Dan Harmon, an attorney with Hoffman Corporation, is trying to implement sweeping changes that would limit patients to possession of only two ounces and three plants.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Vets news, the Oregon Department of Veterans affairs (ODVA) just published its January/February newspaper. I was not comforted by reading their article underlined, Combat, Suicide Related which lays out in grim detail disturbing facts.

The first fact was thta suicide is the 11th most frequent cause of death and the rate among returning battle veterans is twice that of the general population. We know that battle veterans and those in battle zones represent only about ten percent of the population. The facts are tragic and staggering. We are losing our best and brightest.
