Turbulence Over Nevada Injures 10 on United Flight

The injured were taken to a Denver area hospital for treatment.

(DENVER) - united 757 Eight passengers and two flight attendants were injured today when a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Chicago O'Hare encountered turbulence over Nevada.

Flight 1028 was carrying 180 passengers and seven crew members from Los Angeles to Chicago O'Hare when it was diverted to Denver at 2:55 AM after encountering turbulence over Nevada.

Salem Traffic Stop Nets 31 Kilos of Cocaine

The approximately 66 pounds of cocaine has an estimated value of $600,000.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - cocaine bust An OSP trooper on patrol stopped a 2005 Nissan Armada sport utility vehicle with out-of-state license plates Saturday afternoon, police said. The vehicle was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 253 when the trooper pulled it over for speed and lane change violations.

OSP Spokesman Greg Hastings said, "During contact with the lone occupant, a 26-year old male, the trooper subsequently found 31 kilos of cocaine in a false compartment located in the rear cargo area. The approximately 66 pounds of cocaine has an estimated value of $600,000."

Police Name Victims in Triple Fatal Traffic Crash Near Elsie

Two of the victims still have not been named pending notification of their next of kin.

(ELSIE, Ore.) - Oregon State Police investigators are continuing the investigation of a two-vehicle head-on crash Sunday afternoon on Highway 26 east of Elsie that resulted in the death of three people and injuries to four others.

The names are being released except for two victims whose next of kin have not been confirmed as notified.

Afternoon high temperatures will struggle to get much above freezing inland from the coast, with upper teens and lower 20's in the Cascades.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - portland oregon The coldest weather of the year has arrived in Oregon and is expected to stay in the region through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Portland says a modifed arctic air spread over Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington overnight, and will be accompanied by clearing skies and strong east and northeast winds. Winds will be strongest tonight and on Tuesday.

Man Attacks Homeless Shelter With Chainsaw, Knife

The suspect had been staying at the shelter for the past few weeks and was part of an on-the-job training program there.

(NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo) - jail hands Police in Missouri say a man armed with a chain saw and knife went on a violent rampage at a mid-Missouri homeless shelter on Saturday at the Mid-America Care Center near New Bloomfield, about 120 miles west of St. Louis.

28-year-old Matthew Watkins is accused of injuring four people. Police said one man's throat was slashed, another was cut in the abdomen with the chain saw, and two others suffered minor injuries.

Three Die in Head-On Crash Near Elsie

The triple fatal traffic crash happened on Highway 26 east of Elsie.

(ELSIE, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers are investigating a two-vehicle head-on crash Sunday afternoon on Highway 26 east of Elsie that has resulted in the death of three people and injuries to four others. No names will be released tonight and troopers anticipate the highway will reopen around 9:00 PM.

State police Spokesman Greg Hastings says that around 3:45 PM, a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta with five occupants was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 25 when, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line and crashed nearly head-on with an eastbound Chevrole Silverado pickup with two occupants.

The Red Cross needs volunteer assistance to operate these vital centers.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Red Cross Warming Shelter in Portland, Oregon With the coldest temperatures in years headed our way, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross is prepared to open emergency warming centers for the homeless tonight. These are places people can go when they have no other options for staying warm, which can mean staying alive.

Red Cross Spokesperson Lise Harwin says the shelters are necessary and important when it comes to helping people with few other places to turn.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon at night Officials with the City of Portland say transportation crews continue to monitor the weekend weather system and they are prepared to gear up as necessary in the event of snow or ice.

Night crews have been working this weekend and will continue through Monday night applying anti-icing chemical to streets, bridges, overpasses, and potential problem areas according to standard plans.

Coming Days Will be Cold But Little Snow Until Thursday (VIDEO)

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be mostly sunny with highs only reaching 30 to 35 degrees and a northeast wind is expected in the 15 to 25 mph range.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Accuweather.com weather map Forecasters call for mostly cloudy conditions as we approach the Martin Luther King Holiday Monday. Conditions will grow clear and cold into the night with a chance of sprinkles and flurries in the evening.

The snow level will drop to 1000 feet but no snow accumulation is expected. Lows are expected to be 20 to 25 degrees with a north wind blowing 5 to 10 mph.
