Victim and Drivers Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Crash

Police want to hear from anybody who may have been a witnesses to the fatal crash.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Death investigation update Oregon State Police have identified the people involved in a fatal pedestrian accident that happened Friday night at approximately 7:45 PM, on northbound Interstate 5 just north of Market Street in Salem.

OSP Sergeant Dale Young says 54-year old Richard Lee Whittington, who had a last known address in Cave Junction, was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near milepost 258 on foot from the center median to the eastbound shoulder when he was struck by two vehicles.

Vancouver YWCA Announces Winners of Val Joshua Racial Justice Awards

The awards will be presented at the YWCA Annual Celebration on Wednesday, January 23rd.

(VANCOUVER, Wash. ) - Vancouver, Wash. 2007 Val Joshua Radial Justice Award winners The Clark County YWCA in Vancouver says they are pleased to announce Jamie McCoy and Richard Twiss as the 2007 Val Joshua Racial Justice Award winners.

The students in Soar International won the first YWCA Youth Social Justice Award. With their group leader, Jean Walker, they work to help students in Rwanda, eradicate landmines in Vietnam and provide school supplies to homeless children in the Portland-Vancouver area. They have raised funds to support their work with a benefit concert at Esther Short Park.

(KIRKUK, Iraq) - Iraqis and U.S. military at Kirkuk by Margaret Nelson In Iraq’s former Army, members of the military were not allowed to interface with civilians. Today, "it is our duty and responsibility to take care of our people and engage local, provincial government leadership, and non government organizations," Maj. Zyad Junade Omar, 2nd Brigade, 4th Iraq Army Division’s Civil Affairs officer said.

In his third year of conducting Civil Military Operations, Zyad is one of the IA’s first full-time CA officers in its ranks who are responsible for identifying schools, villages, and neighborhoods, that need assistance with the help of local and provincial government officials, and non government organizations, who he meets with on a regular basis.

Police Investigate Another Fatal Vehicle Pedestrian Crash on I-5 in Salem

Meth Team Arrests Nine in SE Portland

OSP Meth Initiative Team investigation leads to nine arrests on a number of charges.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Oregon State Police an investigation by their Meth Initiative Team detectives led to the arrest of nine people this morning in SE Portland on multiple charges.

Lieutenant Gregg Hastings with the state police says the arrests stemmed from a joint investigation in Tillamook County earlier this month and included an arrest of a Pendleton-area woman wanted on an escape charge.

Investigators Process Search Warrant Seized Property In Gervais

Volunteers are working to return calls to possible victims who have left information on that hotline, the police say it is going to take a while.

(GERVAIS, Ore.) - Police tape A 15-person Task Force comprised of personnel from the Salem Police Department, Marion County Sheriff's Office, Woodburn Police Department, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police are continuing to process and research property seized in search warrants served on the property of Ivan Cam at 9884 Mt Angel-Gervais Rd NE, Gervais.

Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada says this investigation began with the theft of a vehicle from a residential burglary in Salem early last December.

Cold Blast Coming to Northwest (VIDEO)

A dip in the jet stream this weekend will allow Arctic air to spill southward from British Columbia, bringing significantly lower temperatures to much of the West Coast.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Accuweather.com weather map Bitterly cold air is driving southward along the Rockies this weekend. Weather forecasters say cold air will also push southward along the Pacific Coast late in the weekend into next week.

Oregon could see the coldest day in three years on Monday. Expect a high temperature of 42 °F and an unusually cold overnight low of 21 °F which they say will feel more like 14 °F.

Hunting Violations Land Several in Jail

Two wildlife investigations lead to search warrants and arrests in Central Oregon.

(BEND, Ore.) - Photo of seized evidence in Oregon Fish and Wildlife case from 1-18-08 in Central Oregon. Two search warrants served by Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division troopers in central Oregon led to the arrest of four people on unlawful hunting-related charges.

Sergeant David Pond with OSP's Fish & Wildlife Division in Bend says troopers executed a search warrant today at 51661 Huntington Road in La Pine where evidence related to illegal taking of deer during a closed season was seized including 13 rifles and a handgun.

Driver Arrested After Chase Begins in School Parking Lot

Investigators say the woman who was arrested had eight outstanding warrants for her arrest.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 26-year old Kristie Jeffers of Salem faces several charges in relation to a police pursuit, 1-18-08 A driver was arrested in Salem today after brief motor vehicle pursuit that began shortly after noon in the parking lot of McKay High School.

Commander Jason Myers with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Kevin Ely stopped a 1998 Ford Contour occupied by two females for a traffic violation. Ely made contact with the driver, but after she exited the vehicle the passenger slid into the driver's seat, put it in gear and took off, Myers said.

13-Year Old Girl Struck By Truck On Highway 212

The girl suffered a crushed femur; undetermined back injuries; a concussion; and multiple abrasions. Fortunately, none of these injuries appear to be life-threatening.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Pedestrian injured A 13-year old girl was struck by an oncoming pickup truck this morning at 8:40 AM while she was attempting to cross Southeast Highway 212, west of the controlled intersection at SE Armstrong Circle, investigators with the Clackamas Sheriff's Office report.

Spokesman Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff says the 13-year old is identified as Margret Kvach, who resides with her family on SE Davidoff Court in Clackamas.
