Northwest Storms Continue (VIDEO)

Possible Santa Ana Wind event next week is predicted by forecasters.

(SALEM ,Ore.) - Accuweather.com weather map Weather forecasters say another Pacific storm moving into the Northwest today will spread rain across the lower elevations and snow in the mountains above 3,000 feet. The storm track over the next few days will push to the north, sending new Pacific storms toward western Canada.

A steady rain today will fall along the coasts of Washington and Oregon as the low pressure area moves into southern British Columbia. Some areas of the Cascades could get another foot of snow on top of the record-breaking snow that has fallen over the past week. High pressure building into the Northwest this weekend will create an offshore flow in Southern California.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Bill Walton NBA Hall of Fame and former Trailblazer Bill Walton signed on as Chairman of Senator Rick Metsger’s bid for the Democratic nomination to serve as Oregon’s next Secretary of State.

Walton, a change activist dating back to his days at UCLA, believes it is “time to take our country back” and that it must take place at both the state and national levels. The two became colleagues in 1990 when Walton worked alongside Metsger as a playoff analyst.

(SALEM, Ore.) - An AFCI is an advanced form of a simple circuit breaker that detects a dangerous condition in a home’s electrical system The Oregon Fire Marshals Association and the National Fire Protection Association today issued a call to action to officials with the state’s Electrical Specialty Code Review Committee to recommend expanding the state’s requirement for "AFCIs", fault circuit interrupters- an innovative home safety device designed to prevent home electrical fires.

Health Advisory Issued for Ocean Waters at Nye Beach

Direct contact with the water should be avoided until the advisories are lifted.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - oregon beach A public health advisory was issued Thursday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Nye Beach in Lincoln County.

Increased pathogen and fecal bacteria levels in ocean waters can come from both shore and inland sources such as storm water runoff, sewer overflows, failing septic systems and even animal waste from livestock, pets and wildlife. Water samples indicate higher-than-normal levels of fecal bacteria, which can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses.

First Woman Dean Named at Willamette`s School of Management

(SALEM, Ore.) - Debra J. Ringold hass been appointed dean of Willamette University`s Atkinson Graduate School of Management Debra J. Ringold has been appointed dean of the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University. Ringold, a professor of marketing at Willamette since 1994, will lead Willamette’s MBA and Executive Development programs, expanding the visibility and viability of the Atkinson School.

She is the first woman to serve as dean in the school’s 33-year history. In announcing his appointment of Ringold, Willamette University M. Lee Pelton said, "I have the utmost confidence in Debra’s capacity to provide the leadership that is needed. I look forward to working with her and with the Atkinson community as we work toward common objectives."

Bush, will endorse Barack Obama for President. Magnitude 6.4 Earthquake Shakes Off Oregon Coast

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

(COOS BAY, Ore. ) - coast quake image A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the Oregon coast Wednesday night, the USGS reported.

The earthquake occurred at 5:37 PM and was located 153 miles west of Winchester Bay. The quake had a depth of 6.2 miles.

DHS Seeks to Halt Early Deaths of People With Mental Illness

This "wellness initiative" won praise during a recent DHS meeting of consumers of mental health services.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Graveyard cross Many Oregonians with serious mental illnesses are dying prematurely because of disease, poor access to medical care and related problems, and the Oregon Department of Human Services has launched a statewide "wellness" initiative to turn things around.

Those with serious mental illness are dying an average 25 years earlier than the general population, often due to heart disease, diabetes and problems related to side effects of medications, smoking, obesity and lack of holistic medical care, according to research by a national mental health council.
