Another Day, Another Storm for the Northwest (VIDEO)

Gusts over 50 mph from Washington to Northern California.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Accuweather.com map Forecasters report that the latest in a stream of Pacific storms will slam the Northwest with wind, rain, and snow that will create hazardous travel conditions, especially in the mountains, today. By tonight, the latest storm will bring gusty onshore winds to coastal areas from Washington to northern California.

A warm front associated with another Pacific storm will approach The Oregon coast this evening. Sustained winds ahead of this front will increase to 25 To 40 mph along the Central Oregon coast early in the evening then spread to the North Oregon coast mainly south of Tillamook by late Evening.

Investigation Concludes on Historic Nyberg House Fire

The home, considered to be a complete loss, has been turned back to the owners and their private insurance company.

(TUALATIN, Ore.) - historic Nyberg house Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue fire investigators have concluded that a fire that destroyed a historic home in Tualatin last week likely began in an upholstered chair on the west end of the first floor.

"The determination came after investigators were granted very limited and quick access to the building late yesterday," Fire Spokesperson Karen Eubanks said.

Oregon College`s Landmark Oak Tree Toppled

Howard Leichter, professor of political science, heard the tree fall from his office in Pioneer Hall, located 50 feet from the tree.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - linfield oak tree Linfield College's Old Oak tree, one of the most recognized landmarks on campus, crashed to the ground yesterday.

The Oregon White Oak tree, estimated to be some 250 years old, toppled toward the Linfield Oak Grove, burying the senior bench in the soggy ground. No one was injured and the concrete bench appears undamaged.

Former Vancouver Cheerleading Coach Headed to Jail

The teenage girl told police that she and the gym's former owner had sex at his apartment last May.

(VANCOUVER, Wash. ) - jail hands A former Vancouver, Washington cheerleading coach will serve nine months in jail and have to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty yesterday to sexual misconduct with a minor.

According to court documents, 28-year-old Neil Finger, the former owner of Vancouver Cheer Academy, had a sexual relationship with a girl from his cheerleading business.

Active Duty Military Property Tax Exemption Law Expands

The new law is retroactive.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - oregon guard If you are an Oregon resident on active military duty and own your home, you may qualify for the active duty military service member’s property tax exemption. Up to $60,000 of the assessed value of your home may be exempt.

The 2007 Legislature changed the exemption to include qualified members serving in the military reserve and those redeployed after January 1, 2005.

Salem City Council Passes Ordinance Threatening Future of Local Business

A vote for changes in the solid waste ordinance went forward even though a local business owner was assured it would wait.

(SALEM, Ore.) - got junk The day before Thanksgiving, Ken Gotlib of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? got a call. A Salem official said there was a proposed ordinance change, and that he should be aware of it. They told him they would send information, and he could call with any questions.

90 pages were emailed, and when he called for clarification, the city official had left for a 10-day vacation. That was the beginning of the Salem garbage drama for the owners of 1-800-Got-Junk?.

Overnight Snowslides Close Highway 20 Again

Crews hoped to have a single lane of traffic open by 9:00 AM.

(SANTIAM JUNCTION, Ore. ) - osp snowslide Two additional snow slides late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning have covered part of U.S. 20 near the Santiam Junction. The Oregon Department of Transportation says this is the third time they have closed U.S. Highway 20 in 24 hours as snow continues to slide onto the highway between mile posts 78.5-80. Current estimates put the snow at 12-15 feet deep across the highway as snow continues to slide.

Snow Grinds Santiam Pass to a Halt Tuesday Morning

ODOT reported at 2:00 PM that the slide at mile post 79 had been cleared, reopened, and that traffic was moving normally through the area.

(SANTIAM PASS, Ore.) - photos of slides on Oregon Highway 20, 1-8-08 Oregon State Police troopers assisted Oregon Department of Transportation crews today with intermittent highway closures, while responding to several snowslides on Highway 20 at Santiam Pass.

Joseph Harwood with ODOT says the series of snow slides closed Highway 20 at milepoint 78.5 near Santiam Junction.
