Oregon Health Plan Accepting New Patients

Several thousand Oregonians to be added to Oregon Health Plan's Standard benefit package.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Doctor`s stethescope For the first time since mid-2004, the Oregon Health Plan is preparing to accept new enrollees for its Standard benefit package.

The Standard benefit package serves low-income Oregon adults ages 19 to 65 who do not qualify for traditional Medicaid but earn less than the federal poverty level, which is $20,650 annually for a family of four.

Theft of Lottery Ticket Could Get Man Ten Years

Springfield Man Arrested Following Theft of Winning $50,000 Lottery Scratch-it Ticket

(SPRINGFILED, Ore.) - Charles Dizick An investigation by Oregon State Police Lottery Security Section detectives has led to the arrest of a Springfield man who allegedly stole a winning $50,000 scratch-it ticket from the victim at a Springfield restaurant. The suspect was arrested when he came to lottery headquarters to claim the $50,000 prize.

Police were contacted by the victim, a 37-year old Kooskia, Idaho resident, on December 26th, reporting the theft that day of a winning Oregon Lottery scratch-it ticket.

FBI Releases Preliminary NW Crime Stats for 2007

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program collects data on murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-threat, and motor vehicle thefts.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - FBI badge Today, the FBI released a preliminary report detailing January - June 2007 crime data based on the submissions of 11,673 law enforcement agencies in the U.S.

Each of these agencies had to submit 3 to 6 comparable months of data to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program for January through June of both 2006 and 2007. Nationally, there was a 1.8% decrease in violent crime and a 2.6% decrease in property crime during the first six months of 2006.

Police Say Drug Bust Involved International Trafficking

Several arrested in culmination of lengthly narcotics investigation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Man handcuffed Several people were arrested today in what police describe as the culmination of a long-term investigation into a Salem area based drug trafficking organization.

Agencies teamed up to serve search warrants at several Salem area locations. Investigators believe the group was responsible for transporting substantial amounts of various kinds of narcotics both within the United States and internationally as well.

Power Restored to Most Areas After Storm Outage

Estimated restoration time for a majority of remaining customers is midnight Sunday.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Pacific Power outage restoration efforts from the weekend storms are substantially complete and the company incident command center expects to deactivate at 11:30 PM, after 62.5 hours.

A limited number of scattered and individual outages remain and crews will continue to work through the night and until all customers have power in Southern Oregon, Northern California and Southeastern Washington.

Police Arrest Suspect in Gladstone Stabbing

Initial statements indicate the motive for the attack was probably drug related.

(GLADSTONE, Ore.) - Oregon Stabbing suspect Wayne Dean Police in Gladstone say a person was stabbed in the neck by an acquaintance Friday at about 8:40 PM. The attack occurred on McLoughlin Blvd near Arlington Street in Gladstone.

Investigators say the victim was stabbed in the neck by an acquaintance, named Wayne Richard Dean. The victim is reported to currently be in stable condition at OHSU.

Ice and Snow Make Oregon Roads Treacherous

Oregon's Highway Department urges motorists to drive with caution.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Icy road The National Weather Service has issued weather alerts for the Cascade foothills, from southern Washington through central Oregon.

On Monday, snow is expected above 1000-2000 feet, with snow levels rising on Tuesday and lowering on Wednesday. Especially in the foothills of the Cascades, this means that precipitation may melt and refreeze, creating icy driving conditions.

Two Oregon Highways Closed by Mudslides, Fallen Trees

Heavy snowfall and saturated soil are combining to bring down trees and power lines on the highway between Noti and Mapleton.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore. ) - road closed sign Dozens of fallen trees and continued heavy snowfall have forced the total closure of Highway 126W and Highway 36 between the Willamette Valley and the Central Oregon Coast.

A mudslide with large trees and rocks forced the closure of Highway 126W at milepoint 25 about 10 miles east of Mapleton at 1:00 AM Sunday morning. The slide is not expected to be cleared until late Sunday night at the earliest.

Six Killed, Four Injured in Plane Crash Off Alaska

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

(KODIAK, Alaska) - Kodiak plane crash Six people were killed and four injured after a small plane crashed into the waters off the southern Alaska coast Saturday.

A Servant Air, Piper Navajo Chieftain carrying 10 people crashed at 1:48 PM Saturday afternoon after take-off near runway 36. Four passengers were immediately recovered by an Andrew Airways float plane near the area of the crash and Trident Seafoods.
