Doernbecher Kids Receive Visit from Miss Oregon as `Cinderella`

Miss Oregon visits Doernbecher Children's Hospital today as "Cinderella".

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Miss Oregon visiting Doernbecher as Cinderella The kids at Doernbecher Children's Hospital received a special guest today. Miss Oregon, Kari Virding, performed in character as Cinderella.

That sounds good, but even better when you realize that Virding stars in the Blue Monkey Theater Company's tribute to the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Cinderella which ran through December 30th. She was accompanied by the Prince during the musical performance today at Doernbecher.

State Trooper Avoids Injury in Crash Near Myrtle Point

Injury Traffic Crash Involving Oregon State Police Trooper - Highway 42 east of Myrtle Point.

(MYRTLE POINT, Ore.) - Photo of crash scene near Coos Bay, Oregon 1-2-08: Oregon State Police The Coos County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Wednesday afternoon traffic crash involving an Oregon State Police trooper on Highway 42 about five miles east of Myrtle Point. The trooper was not injured and the other involved driver received non-life threatening injuries.

According to a Coos County Sheriff's Office news release, Wednesday at approximately 5:41 PM, OSP Trooper Freddie Dunlap was eastbound enroute to a reported three vehicle crash on Highway 42 near the Coos / Douglas county line.

Biden Takes Bush to Task Over Sale of F-16 Jet Fighters to Pakistan

This is not the first time the United States has sold or attempted to sell F-16 jet fighters to Pakistan.

(SALEM, Ore.) - An Pakistan Air Force F-16 and their country`s flag The Bush Administration has awarded a $500 million contract to supply Pakistan with 18 F-16 military fighter jets. The Pentagon made the announcement late in the day on December 31st, stating that it had approved the sale of the planes to Pakistan, with the deal awarded to Lockheed Martin.

President Bush's decision to sell the planes comes at a time when this politically strained country is reeling from the recent assassination of Benazir Bhutto. It is also occupied by countless numbers of jihadists, many of whom use Pakistan as an entry point to Afghanistan.

O'Reilly's brand of medicine cures few but ails many, and I predict that his span of days on the air are numbered.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Bill O`Reilly on FOX News I was instantly reminded by media pundit Bill O'Reilly on New Year's Day, how easily human belief systems are swayed when confronted with believable lies. It isn't about politics or viewpoints or left or right, this guy creates a fictitious reality and then shares it with people over the airwaves.

People believe what is not true, and at the end of the day Americans who listened to him knew a little less instead of more. Things aren't supposed to work that way. Americans shouldn't be tasked with having to relearn information that O'Reilly falsely communicated to them in the first place.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Cropduster spraying pesticides The first year of Oregon's landmark Pesticide Use Reporting System, "PURS" has drawn to a close, but pesticide users have until the end of the month to report their 2007 usage. Meanwhile, it will most likely be July 2008 before the general public sees a summarized report on pesticide use in Oregon.

Although detailed information is being electronically collected, the law that created PURS protects confidentiality of individual users and requires that the data be summarized in the statewide report prepared by the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem, Oregon traffic The Salem Public Works Department will begin a round of "Keep Salem Moving" presentations to neighborhood associations, business groups, civic groups, and other jurisdictions to outline various transportation projects that address citizens' concerns regarding congestion, maintaining existing streets and bridges, and safety.

Over the last several months, the Public Works staff conducted two focus groups and one independent poll, and solicited feedback from over 1,000 citizens regarding their perceptions of local transportation needs.

Crash on Highway 62 Claims One Life

One man was killed and another critically injured.

(EAGLE POINT, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Central Point, Oregon 1-2-08 One person died, his brother was critically injured, and two others received non-life threatening injuries Wednesday evening in a three-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 62 about two miles east of Eagle Point in front of Willamette Egg Farm.

Around 6:46 PM this evening, a 1998 Subaru Impreza driven by 20-year old Nicholas Gordon of Ashland, was westbound on Highway 62 near milepost 12 when it crashed while attempting to pass another vehicle on a straight stretch of two-lane highway.

Victim Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Crash December 30th

Update: Victim Identified - Fatal Vehicle / Pedestrian Crash - Interstate 84 at Bridal Veil Interchange

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation into a fatal pedestrian involved crash Sunday night that resulted in the death of a Spokane, Washington woman.

Sergeant Dan Swift with Oregon State Police says the victim was positively identified as 29-year old Stephany Annette McAllister of Spokane. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her next of kin have been notified.
