Escaped Prisoner from Columbia River Captured

Clackamas County Inter Agency Task Force Locate And Arrest

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - 29-year old Dustin Nyberg was captured after escaping from an Oregon state prison work crew, 1-2-08 An escaped state inmate from a work crew was captured tonight by deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. They say that at 6:00 PM, 29-year old Dustin Nyberg was located by an interagency team, passed-out inside his father's residence, located at 10145 SE B Street in Milwaukie.

Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff's Office says Nyberg's alleged stolen vehicle, used to facilitate his escape, was recovered a short distance from this residence on a side street in Milwaukie.

(CAPTURED) State Prison Inmate Walks Away From Work Crew

29-year old Dustin Nyberg was scheduled for release in February 2008.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon fugitive 29-year old Dustin Nyberg A minimum-custody Oregon Department of Corrections inmate walked away from a four-man work crew this afternoon in Portland, officials with the Department of Corrections reported.

Vicki Reynolds with the Department of Corrections says 29-year old Dustin Nyberg was with a crew from Columbia River Correctional Institution in north Portland. "The crew was performing various clean-up duties at the Oregon Food Bank at 7900 NE 33rd, about a mile from the prison. He was last seen taking the trash out at 1:30 PM."

Deputies Make Arrest in Salem Bank Robbery

(SALEM, Ore.) - 27-year old Tyler Schilling of Salem was arrested for robbery 1-2-08 A bank robbery suspect was arrested today after a Salem Police officer relayed the man's possible location to Marion County deputies. They were seeking the man who robbed the Maps Credit Union located at 4001 Winema Place NE in Salem, Oregon just before 11:00 AM.

The suspect was carrying an undetermined amount of U.S. currency. He has been identified as 27-year old Tyler Schilling of Salem, a resident of the Salem area.

Oregon Cigarettes Exclusively `Fire-Safe` in 2008

Fire-Safer Cigarettes now for sale at Oregon retail outlets.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Safer smokes As of January 1st, 2008 only fire-safer cigarettes are allowed to be sold in Oregon. The law, passed by the Oregon Legislature and signed by Governor Kulongoski in April 2007, allowed wholesalers and retailers until the end of '07 to eliminate their current stock of non-fire safe cigarettes.

"The fire-safer cigarette technology uses specially designed paper with ‘speed bumps' to act as small fire breaks," says State Fire Marshal Nancy Orr.

Crude Oil Reaches $100 Per Barrel Mark

We start a new year with a new record high for crude oil. After weeks of speculation, the price of crude finally reached $100 per barrel. Gas prices are up across the country and in Oregon.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon gas station "After weeks of anticipation, the price of crude oil finally reached the century mark in New York today before easing back slightly. And prices at the pumps have been rising again. The national average is back over $3 per gallon as we start 2008." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says.

Survey Shows Oregonians Paying Less for Homeowner Insurance

Figures don't include protection for earthquakes and floods.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Row of well maintained homes in Salem, Oregon Oregonians spend less for homeowner insurance than residents of almost any other state, according to a national survey.

The average premium for the most commonly purchased homeowner policy was $491 in 2005, ranking Oregon 48th lowest out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The nationwide average was $764 in the survey conducted by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Riders in 2007 Providence Bridge Pedal Help Save Lives

Funds from the event will buy machines designed to help people assist someone having a heart attack.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Providence Heart and Vascular Institute administrator Kristy Wayson and Cooper Spur Volunteer Ski Patrol member Jason Wilkins display the donated AED. Thousands of hearts pumped hard last summer as cyclists pedaled the 12th annual Providence Bridge Pedal. Now, other hearts will benefit from the riders’ efforts.

Providence Heart and Vascular Institute is using proceeds from the massive bike event to purchase and donate automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to community groups and public locations in the greater Portland area.

More DUII Deaths and Arrests in Oregon this New Year

Oregon State Police and the state's highway department release preliminary post-New Year's holiday statistics.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Yamhill County-area officers who participated in the some of the interagency DUII enforcement effort. Oregon's roads and highways saw a slightly worse New Year season in terms of traffic related DUII deaths and arrests. Police say enhanced patrols were successful.

Early numbers indicated a slight jump in the number of traffic-related deaths and an increase in DUII arrests during this year's 102-hour New Year's holiday period between 6:00 PM, Friday, December 28th, and 11:59 PM, Tuesday, January 1st.
