Highway 6 Near Banks Reopens After Crash

Oregon State Police say snow plows are at work right now.

(BANKS, Ore.) - Oregon State Police report that traffic is beginning to move again on Highway 6 west of Banks after a crash involving large vehicles.

Highway 6 near milepost 34 came to a stop following a non-injury crash involving a bus and commercial truck. Police reported earlier that there were no injuries reported from the crash. They had no additional information on the crash scene.

New Insurance Policies Protect Assets for Medicaid

In Oregon, Partnership policies will be sold through private insurance companies and agents licensed by the Insurance Division.

(SALEM, Ore.) - stethoscope and money Insurers will begin offering Oregon residents a new kind of long-term care insurance policy after January 1st 2008, that will allow them to protect their assets if they ever need to apply for Medicaid.

The new Qualified Partnership Policies are intended to encourage individuals to purchase long-term care insurance by offering asset protection for benefit amounts received under a policy. Assets are excluded that may otherwise be counted when qualifying for Medicaid.

Canby Police Deliver Family Christmas Miracle

A Canby family's Yorkie named "Penny" went missing after her owner was involved in a three vehicle traffic collision December 20th.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Yorkie named Penny that was missing just before Christmas in Canby, Oregon 2006 Canby Police Officers located a mini Yorkie dog Sunday December 23rd that was missing from a traffic crash that occurred on the afternoon of Thursday December 20th.

The family spent exhaustive hours searching for their dog and for a while they wondered if they would ever see her again.

Sign Post Pierces Windshield, Injuring Passenger on Highway 18

Two people were both transported to Willamette Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

(SHERIDAN, Ore.) - Ice crash near Sheridan, Oregon 12-27-07 Police say two Milwaukie-area residents were lucky Wednesday night after losing control of the sport utility vehicle on an icy stretch of Highway 18 west of Sheridan. Their vehicle struck a sign post that came through the windshield and struck the passenger.

Police say the crash was one of about a dozen non-injury police responded to Wednesday night during icy conditions in the area.

Eastern Oregon Prepares for Blizzard

Severe Winter Weather Expected in Grande Ronde Valley Tonight and Tomorrow.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Blowing snow The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for 6:00 PM this evening through 6:00 PM Friday for the Grande Ronde Valley including the cities of La Grande, Elgin and Union.

The Oregon Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare accordingly and avoid traveling during the storm. High winds and blowing snow may cause white-out conditions. Drivers should expect chain requirements in mountain passes.

Pakistan`s Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto Assassinated

A ray of hope for the future of Pakistan was killed by a terrorist.

(RAWALPINDI, Pakistan) - Pakistan`s Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto As she was leaving a public campaign rally in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was killed by a suicide bomber today in a crowded park. More than 15 people were killed and several were injured.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that Ms. Bhutto was just leaving the rally when an unidentified gunman shot her in the neck and in hte chest before detonating a bomb in the crowd. Ms. Bhutto was was officially pronounced dead at a hospital she was transported to.

Windy and Snowy Conditions Make Driving Treacherous in Areas of Oregon and Washington

The winds will continue today before winding down tonight as the high pressure begins to move to the east.

California, Oregon and Washington Will be Impacted by EPA Decision

In a surprise move, the Administrator of the EPA denied California and 16 other state's ability to set standards for cleaner air.

(SALEM, Ore.) - California smog tailpipe California Congresswoman Barbara Boxer is lashing out at EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson for his dead of the night move as lawmakers were leaving town for the holiday recess, to deny California's Waiver that allows the state to set higher emission standards for cars.

Sixteen other states including Oregon are affected by the political maneuvering. Boxer says the nearly half the country's efforts to clean the air will be affected. She compared Johnson to a character in a Dr. Sues book.

UN Disaster Teams Conduct Record Number of Missions in Americas

The missions to the Americas included the first ever to Mexico, as well as to Dominican Republic, Honduras, Belize and Jamaica, Peru, Uruguay and two to Bolivia.

(UNITED NATIONS) - The United Nations emergency teams that support Member States in coordinating disaster response within hours of tragedy striking, conducted nine missions to the Americas this year, the highest ever.

Overall, the UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination teams carried out 14 missions in 2007, higher than the usual yearly number, with 70 per cent of them in response to hurricanes and floods.
