Special Activities in Portland During Kwanzaa

Matt Dishman Community Center and the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center offer special celebrations during Kwanzaa.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Kwanzaa On Wednesday, December 26th, the Matt Dishman Community Center will honor the first day of Kwanzaa, Umoja or 'Unity' with a presentation of the Feast of the Seven Tables, a performance by Liquid Moves Entertainment.

The Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center honors Kujichagulia or 'self-determination', the second day of Kwanzaa week, with live performances by poets and drummers.

More Trouble for Britney Spear`s Child Custody Case

This is the fourth time that the blonde singer has skipped court.

(LOS ANGELES) - Britney Spears and Kevin Federline Kevin Federline's attorney, Mark V. Kaplan, is trying to convince the Court to ban Britney Spears from appealing for enhanced custody of her children, after she missed her court-ordered deposition in her ongoing custody trial a few days ago.

K-Fed's lawyer highlighted that the Toxic singer declared that she was too sick on Wednesday to be present for the deposition, but then she went out partying on Thursday morning.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Raod construction art A number of road and highway projects are ongoing in the local area and drivers need to be especially mindful as winter temperatures increase dangers for roadside workers.

In some road construction areas no traffic impacts are expected until spring 2008 when weather will allow additional work.

Glowing Cats in Korea Could Advance Stem Cell Treatments

Two of the cats born earlier in 2007 grew to become adult Turkish Angoras weighing about six and a half pounds.

(SEOUL, South Korea) - Glowing Korean cat clones Cats that glow in the dark? That's what researchers in an animal cloning expert at Gyeongsang National University, in Jinju, South Korea announced this week. As the photos demonstrate, a cat possessing red fluorescence protein, "RFP" glows in the dark when it is exposed to ultraviolet light.

The team led by animal cloning expert Kong Il-keun announced Wednesday that they had cloned the two RFP cats for the first time in the world.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - K2, or Mount Godwin Austen NBC Sports will broadcast a special one hour show documenting a team of mountain climbers who set out on a 9-week expedition to the peak of K2, the second highest mountain on earth, located in the Himalayas.

Gearbox Studios, a multi-media production company located in McMinnville Oregon, worked closely with Earth Treks to develop a web site, sharedsummits.com where the team could upload daily video bulletins, blogs and photos throughout the entire journey.

New Child Abuse Prevention Center Opens in Polk County

Family Building Blocks still needs to raise $420,000 to develop the children’s playground and to help support program operations for the first 3 years.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Smiling child gives thumbs up Family Building Blocks, a child abuse prevention program serving young children and their families in Marion and Polk counties, saw an opportunity to expand their services into Polk County and grasped it.

After a year long capital campaign raising over $1.3 million, FBB has completely renovated the former credit union building in West Salem located at 1135 Edgewater Street into a new facility dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect.

Law Enforcement Agencies Team Up for Kids

The children are given a gift card from Walmart and are accompanied by the law enforcement employee as they shop for whatever they wish in the store.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Shop with a Cop event from 2005 The Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem Police Department, Keizer Police Department, Oregon State Police and the non-profit Law Enforcement for Youth say they will be able to make the holidays a bit brighter for approximately 400 local children during this year's Shop With A Cop Event.

The event will be held at the Walmart store, 5250 Commercial St SE from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 15th.

Police Identify Pedestrian Killed by Hit and Run Driver

(SALEM, Ore.) - 21-year old Kyle Andrew Rush of Silverton, Oregon died Monday after being struck in the 12000 block of Silverton Road in Salem. A man who was struck down by a car at midnight on Monday in the 12000 Block of Silverton Road and then run over a second time, has been identified as 21-year old Kyle Andrew Rush of Silverton, Oregon.

A witness who stopped to assist Mr. Rush reported seeing a dark colored Chevy S10 pick up or Blazer type vehicle leaving the scene westbound on Silverton Road. Police believe that is the vehicle that struck Mr. Rush.

Delta Reduces Cost for Flying In and Out of Salem

The Delta service from Salem, Oregon to Salt Lake City Utah was announced last February and began in June with two daily flights.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Delta jet at Salem, Oregon Delta Air Lines has reduced the cost of ticket prices on flights to and from the Salem Airport. It was announced this week that it is an effort to make the prices of Salem flights more in line with the cost of flying out of Portland.

"A number of travelers have expressed concern that ticket prices out of the Salem Airport are not competitive enough with prices out of Portland."

Salem House Fire Blamed on Improperly Installed Chimney

One firefighter received a minor injury while pulling a fire hose inside the structure. He was evaluated at the scene, but was not transported.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem, Oregon house fire, 12-12-07 Salem firefighters arriving on the scene of a structure fire at 843 Dove Avenue NE today say they had light smoke coming from the front door of the single-story home. The single alarm fire had been called in just before 3:00 PM.

Fire Department Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says that with the use of a thermal imagining camera, firefighters discovered fire behind the brick chimney of the fire place.
