Salem Police Make Two Arrests in Tire Slashings

Both juveniles lived in the area of the crimes.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Handcuffs Salem Police heard reports from at least 41 people on the night of November 24th who had their vehicle tires slashed in the South Salem area.

Lt. Chuck Bennett with Salem Police says many of the victims lived along Fabry Rd SE, Woodside Dr SE, and Alvina St SE. The total damage suffered by these victims amounted to $9,743. "Many of the victims had more than one tire slashed and one of the vehicles damaged was a Marion County Sheriff's department vehicle," Bennett added.

Lower Columbia River Highway Remains Closed From Mudslide

A detour exists from Portland to Astoria.

(CLATSKANIE, Ore.) - Oregon mudslide near Clatskanie, 12-11-07 U.S. 30, the Lower Columbia River Highway, remains closed in both directions at mile post 67 near Clatskanie, while crews work into the night to clear a slide that earlier Tuesday covered a stretch of U.S. 30 several football fields long with mud, trees and other debris. The slide caused several homes to be washed off their footings.

U.S. 30 is expected to remain closed in both directions until further notice. Crews are working as fast as possible to clear the mud and other debris that is 10-feet-high in some areas.

Marauding Black Bear Shot and Killed in Florence Neighborhood

"None of us ...want to have to kill any more bears.”

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - Oregon homes door broken down by bear that police killed An Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division trooper shot and killed a male black bear this morning in a Florence-area neighborhood after responding to a report of the bear breaking down a door and entering a home.

According to the homeowner, the bear broke into his home and approached him inside his garage yesterday in addition to attempting to break into his home again this morning.

Alabama Man Dies in Crash on Highway 58 East of Oakridge

One man survived because another driver pulled him from his burning truck cab.

(OAKRIDGE, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Oakridge, Oregon, 12-11-07 One person was killed Tuesday morning after the vehicle he was operating crossed into the opposite lane on Highway 58 about twelve miles east of Oakridge and collided with a commercial truck.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Lang Hinkle says The truck's driver was pulled to safety by another commercial driver after the truck caught fire following impact. The victim's name is withheld pending next of kin notification.

National Gas Prices Inch Down Below $3 per Gallon

The price of gas should remain stable for the holidays.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas station attendant in Oregon "Gas prices continue to inch down." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "The national average drops five cents this week and is below $3 per gallon for the first time since November 4th.

Oregon's statewide average is down four cents to $3.07 per gallon. Gas prices peaked in mid-November as the price of crude oil approached $100 per barrel, compared with about $89 per barrel today. OPEC's decision last week not to raise production did not cause prices to increase because crude oil and gas inventories are healthy, and demand has been flattening out.

Apartment at YMCA Evacuates Entire Structure

All portions of the YMCA were evacuated during the incident including the main YMCA, apartments and child care.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Photo of YMCA fire in Salem, Oregon 12-11-07 Salem firefighters knocked down an apartment fire that broke out this morning at the YMCA, located at 685 Court Street NE in Salem. Fire Department Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says the call of "Smoke in a Structure" came through at 8:22 AM.

"When firefighters arrived on scene, they had smoke coming from the second floor of this three story brick building. This portion of the YMCA is used for apartments."

Oregon's Attorney General is monitoring supply and sales of basic consumer goods and services in affected North Coast areas.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Vernonia, Oregon flood cleanup 12-11-07 Governor Ted Kulongoski today announced his decision to declare an abnormal disruption of the marketplace in geographical areas affected by last week’s storm, as allowed by Senate Bill 118, the state’s new anti-price gouging law.

“The storms and their aftermath have wreaked havoc on many Oregonians in the last week,” stated Governor Kulongoski. “By issuing this declaration, these victims will be protected from unscrupulous retailers and those attempting to take advantage of the needy and vulnerable,” he added.

Update on Oregon Highway 26 Shooting Investigation

Police say one of the men remains in serious condition.

(ZIG ZAG, Ore.) - Highway shooting update One man remains in serious condition today and another has been treated and released after both were shot on Highway 26 by an unknown motorist.

Police say the shooting appears to be a random encounter. It happened on Highway 26 in the Zig Zag area. Police say the victims' names are being withheld at this time for safety reasons and the investigation is continuing to locate the suspect in this case.

Deputies Seek Suspect in Salem Home Invasion Robbery

A warrant issued for the man's arrest states he has "Violent Tendencies".

(SALEM, Ore.) - 20-year old Maximillian Navarro The Marion County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in locating 20-year old Maximillian Navarro who is a suspect in a home invasion style robbery from November.

Navarro is a Hispanic male adult, 5'09" 150lbs, Brown eyes, Black hair. On November 25th of this year, Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to 3917 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem on a report of a Robbery that had just occurred at this residence.
