High Winds Down Trees and Cause Signal Failures in Salem

Citizens should report local flooding or downed trees and limbs to Public Works Dispatch at 503-588-6333.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Police lights Salem Parks and Public Works crews say that by 5:20 PM today, they have responded to at least thirteen downed trees or major limbs and eleven traffic signals that were out.

Train Crashes Into Car on Tracks Killing Driver

Weather conditions or other factors causing this accident are still undetermined.

Oregon Coast, Willamette Valley Under Flood Watch

Due to a power line down, Liberty Road south between Ewald and Madrona Ave. is shut down. Salem Fire continues to repond to numerous power lines down throughout the city, if you must travel be careful of down power lines and falling trees.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - salem flood photo The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington through Wednesday morning. That includes the central and southern Willamette Valley.

A powerful storm system will bring heavy rains to the entire state. One strong low is now affecting the Oregon Coast and the Willamette Valley with powerful winds and heavy rains. Monday's storm has origins in the subtropics of the mid-Pacific and carries very high precipitable water values.

A High Wind Warning is in effect from 10:00 AM this morning to 10:00 PM Monday for the Oregon Coast.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - storm watch image A Wind Advisory is in effect from 10:00 AM this morning to 10:00 PM Monday for the mid-Willamette Valley.

South winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to around 50 mph are expected this afternoon and again on Monday as two strong weather systems move over the state. A brief decrease in the winds is expected tonight.

OSU Wins Oregon`s Civil War Game

This year's Civil War was a memorable event and had all of the usual rivalry.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - After an initial surge, Oregon State seemed to slip in the first half of the Civil War game today, but showed their fans that the second half would be different. The first half of the Civil War was memorable and had many great plays.

The Beavers looked like it was going to be their game at first as they brought the score to 21-7 in the second quarter. But as the game neared halftime, Oregon scored two touchdowns to bring the 21-7 score to 21-21.

In the fourth quarter, with 14:43 left in the game, the score is tied 28-28.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Ducks and Beavers The first half of the Civil War will be the talk when the week begins. As the game neared halftime, Oregon scored two touchdowns to bring the 21-7 score to 21-21.

Oregon's Strong man singlehandedly without interruption made the touchdown and the extra point that tied them with the Beavers before halftime.

Salem Gets First Snowfall of the Winter Season

(SALEM, Ore. ) - salem snow Salem is getting it's first snowfall of the winter season. I know it's NOT Breaking News, but it's fun to see those little white flakes falling.

The snow began falling just after 8:30 AM in the south and west Salem hills. Salem-News.com has also had reports this morning of light snow showers in the west hills of Portland, Newport, Lincoln City, Otis, and at Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde.

At 9:00 AM the snow showers increased, but so far there are no reports of any problems in the Salem-area.

4 Arrested for Running Craigslist Prostitution Ring

Police are warning both prostitutes and those who use their services that exchanging money for sexual acts is a crime and can be dangerous.

(WOODBURN, Ore. ) - jail hands Four people were arrested by Woodburn police, accused of a running a prostitution ring involving the popular website Craigslist.

Woodburn police say they looked for ad postings on Craigslist.com for people soliciting sex in exchange for money. On Thursday night, undercover officers met each of the suspects at a Woodburn motel and made the arrests.

Oregon Braces for Snow, Hurricane Force Winds

UPDATE: A very light snow shower began in the south and west Salem hills just after 8:45 this morning.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - storm watch The National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon has issued a Snow Advisory for the Portland-metro area from noon until 6:00 PM Saturday afternoon.

Snow showers are expected to develop this afternoon, but will mix with rain at lower elevations. The level for sticking snow is expected to be around 500 feet and rise to 1000 feet early Saturday evening. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible, mainly above 500 feet.
