Trent Lott of Mississippi will Leave Senate

Lott's political career has been one of substantial controversy, but he believes he has made a positive difference for Mississippi and the United States.

(PASCAGOULA, Miss.) - Trent Lott U.S. Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi, the Senate Republican Whip, has announced his retirement from the Senate.

Announcing his Retirement from the Senate at the LaFont Inn in Pascagoula, Mississippi, Lott said that for he and his wife Tricia, "it has been a wonderful experiences," the Senator stated.

Baby Grace Tentatively Identified; Parents Arrested

The girl's mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, 19, and her husband, Royce Clyde Zeigler II, 24, were arrested in the case.

(GALVESTON, Texas ) - Baby Grace News sources are reporting that "Baby Grace", a small child whose body was discovered on a Texas beach, has probably been identified.

Tentative ID has been made, but authorities are awaiting DNA test results to positively confirm that the girl is 2-year old Riley Ann Sawyers of Spring, Texas.

Study Links Preschool Behavior to Academic Success

Results found that every seven-point increase in behavioral regulation over the school year predicted between three weeks and 2.8 months of learning gains in vocabulary, math and literacy.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - preschool photo A study by an Oregon State University faculty member shows that preschool age children who do not master basic self-regulation skills such as paying attention and following instructions may fall behind in academic subjects including math and reading.

The findings contradict a recent controversial study that found weak or no association between children’s socioemotional skills – including attention – and learning.

Salem Man Arrested on Allegations of Shooting Gun While Driving on I-5

The suspect was also cited for Refusing a Breath Test, Driving While Suspended, and Possession of less than an Ounce of Marijuana.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - OSP Suspect photo Oregon State Police troopers arrested a Salem-area man Thanksgiving evening on multiple driving and weapon charges related to allegations he fire a handgun in the direction of a woman's van while driving northbound on Interstate 5 in the Albany area.

The suspect was located by troopers on Interstate 5 in Salem after other motorists called to report a reckless driving that matched the description related to the initial incident.

I-5 Northbound in Eugene Closed Over Haz Mat Crash

A detour was established early to help get northbound traffic around area while lanes remain closed for possibly several hours, motorists are advised to expect delays.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - crash investigation Oregon State Police troopers are on Interstate 5 northbound where travel lanes south of the Highway 58 junction near milepost 188 in Eugene area completely closed

They say that at approximately 5:15 AM, a commercial truck rolled onto its side and is blocking all northbound lanes.

Redskins Sean Taylor in Critical Condition Following Shooting

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Taylor is "fighting for his life."

(MIAMI) - Sean Taylor Media reports out of Miami say Washington Redskins free safety Sean Taylor is in extremely critical condition at this hour, after someone shot him at his home early Monday morning.

WSVN-TV says Taylor, 24, was shot in the leg, but bullet struck the femoral artery, and he has lost a lot of blood.

Taylor, a former University of Miami football player, missed his second straight game on Sunday with a sprained right knee. Due to his ferocious style of hitting, his teammates nicknamed him "Meast".

Linda Hogan, or Linda Marie Bollea, 48, applied for the separation last week, seeking to end their 24-years together. Hogan, 54, whose real name is Terry Bollea, claimed the first he knew about the divorce was when newspaper reporters contacted him about it.

Freezing Fog Blamed Partly in Multi Car Crash on I-5

One driver was seriously injured and had to be extricated by emergency responders.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Early morning crash in Linn County, Oregon 11-25-07 Police say freezing fog contributed to hazardous driving conditions early Sunday morning in southern Linn County.

It kept officers and emergency responders busy covering numerous traffic crashes included one on Interstate 5 north of Harrisburg that closed the freeway for at least two hours.
