It is a sad fact that straw polls and UFO's are merely window dressing. The real power is in money. It buys the political messages you watch during your nightly dip into reality television. It pays for the printing of the distorted messages which fill your snail-mail mail box just before an election. It buys YOU in every conceivable meaning of the word. Influence. Money. Power. When running for president you want to find someone with deep pockets. The deeper, the better.

Police Say Argument Became Violent Domestic Abuse

Police say both were injured when a pair of scissors was picked up.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - 19-year old Cody Knight Corvallis Police Officers responded to the 1800 block of NW Grant Circle Monday afternoon, after neighbors reported hearing a fight between a man and a woman in an adjacent duplex.

Lieutenant Dave Henslee with Corvallis Police says that upon arrival, officers say they located and detained 19-year old Cody Knight who had been involved in an altercation with the victim, who is also his girlfriend.

Oil Spill Cleanup Efforts Continue in San Francisco Area

The public is reminded that they should avoid areas and wildlife that are oiled, as untrained persons may cause further damage, while attempting to assist.

(SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.) - Rear Admiral Craig Bone (left), commander of the Eleventh Coast Guard District, explains the details of the Cosco Busan incident in the San Francisco Bay to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Coast Guard is the federal on-scene coordinator for cleanup of an oil spill that occurred when motor vessel Cosco Busan, a 900-foot container carrier, hit one of the towers of the San Francisco Bay Bridge Wednesday morning.

A massive cleanup operation is underway in California to eradicate the spill. Since Wednesday, 11 skimmers were currently deployed on the water, with the assistance of 10 wildlife recovery teams that are on the beaches.

UN Says Malnutrition Rates in Kenyan Refugee Camps Lowest in Years

(UNITED NATIONS) - Food production in Kenya Three United Nations agencies today hailed the efforts of the international community in turning around a devastating malnutrition crisis in refugee camps in northern Kenya, adding that continued support was vital to maintain the progress already made.

Thanks to a series of measures taken by the UN refugee agency (UNHCR), the UN World Food Program, malnutrition rates in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps are the lowest recorded since 2000.

Legislators `Go After` Undocumented Immigrant Families in Oregon

Oregon republicans pursue numerous options to raise the stakes against families without legal documentation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - State Representative Linda Flores (R-Clackamas) and Representatives Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer, Newberg, St. Paul) During a joint news conference at the State Capitol this morning, State Representative Linda Flores (R-Clackamas) and Representatives Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer, Newberg, St. Paul) delivered a Call-To-Action on immigration reform.

"We’re asking Oregonians to pressure the Legislature and the Governor to take action on these important issues," said Flores. Oregonians for Immigration Reform hosted the event which also included chief petitioners for a new ballot measure.

Newport Boat Parade Will Light the Night December 1st

Newport's boat parade will feature a variety of watercraft, including charter boats, fishing boats, sail boats and even sea kayaks.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Lighted Boat Parade at Newport, Oregon Newport’s Yaquina Bay will get festive in a particularly spectacular way in early December as about a couple dozen boats take to the water gussied up in a variety of lights – all for the charity event known as the 14th Annual Lighted Boat Parade.

On December 1st from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, local lighted boats will make a large loop around the bay, from the Coast Guard Station to the Embarcadero Resort and back, showing off a variety of colorful designs.

Washington Deputies Investigate Homicide in Clark County

The victim in this case has been identified as Larry Van Schaick's wife, 25-year old Erin F Van Schaick. Anyone who spoke with Larry Van Schaick on 11-12-07 is encouraged to call investigators.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Police tape Clark County Sheriff's Office units were dispatched to 5706 NE 58th Court Monday just after receiving a report that a male at that location had two cut wrists and was bleeding.

That isn't what they found on scene though, instead the located the deceased body of the wife of the man making the 911 call, who deputies were later able to locate.

Woman Escapes Salem House Fire

Investigators say the fire was accidentally caused when the occupant left a pot of tea on the stove while she went to get the paper.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fire in Salem, Oregon 11-13-07 Salem Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 865 Kingwood Drive NW today just after 10:30 AM.

Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says that when first response firefighters arrived on scene, they had light smoke coming from the front door of the cottage of this large home.

Introduced by Wyden and Bennett, the Healthy Americans Act is the first bipartisan, comprehensive health reform bill in more than 13 years.
