OHSU Responds to PETA`s Allegations Over Primate Research

PETA lists many criticisms of OHSU's Primate Research Center, but the University says it has "an outstanding record of animal care."

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - OHSU has worked on a project to clone primate cells.  Now the barrier is down through a new technique using rhesus monkey cells. The animal rights group PETA, has Portland's Oregon Health Sciences University Primate Research Center listed in position #8 on their ‘10 Worst Laboratories’ List, and they are gearing up to bring more attention to OHSU's continued use of laboratory monkeys.

Canby Couple Trapped in Truck Snagged by Downed Live Wire

The people in the truck stayed inside until safely freed from the live wire.

(CANBY, Ore.) - This PGE technician freed the vehicle, only to learn that his aunt was one of the people inside the vehicle.  Photo courtesy: A couple trapped in the cab of their pickup did the right thing today, after it became entangled in a downed power line.

They stayed inside the vehicle until emergency crews safely freed them, and were not injured.

Power Now Restored to Most of Oregon

To report an outage or a downed power line, customers should call 1-877-LITES OUT (1-877-548-3768).

(SALEM, Ore.) - Power lineman art Pacific Power crews say they are continuing to respond to outages that have affected customers all day throughout Oregon and Washington.

As of 4:00 PM today, there are 4,733 Pacific Power customers without electricity in Oregon and Washington. In many cases, these are scattered outages.

Daming Xu was last seen on Nov. 4 by some hikers who said they saw him near the Ollalie Summit.

(McKENZIE BRIDGE, Ore.) - Daming Xu The search for a missing University of Oregon professor who became lost during a hike to the summit of Olallie Mountain over a week ago has been suspended.

High winds, rain, sleet, and snow have hampered search efforts for 63-year-old Daming Xu over the past few days.

Power Line Crews Restore More Oregon Storm Outages

Southeast Portland, Beaverton, and the Portland West Hills still have concentrations of more than 1,000 customers without power.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Power pole PGE crews say they have cut the outage totals by more than half during the past two hours. The utility reports about 16,000 without power right now, down from about 35,000 during the noon-hour.

With wind gusts lowering to under 30 miles per hour, and more than 200 PGE repair people in the field, several major feeder lines were connected in Southeast Portland, Salem,Washington County, Silverton, the West Hills, Molalla and other areas.

300 Power Workers are Repairing Wind Damaged Parts of Oregon

The number without power has grown significantly in Southeast Portland in Washington County over the past two hours.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Storm PGE now has almost 300 personnel working to restore power, with 67 repair crews in the field. The number of outages is at 31,000 -- having hit 35,000 in the past hour.

Progress will depend largely on the strength of the winds over the rest of the afternoon.

Semi Trailer Rolled Over by Strong Winds on I-84

The crash blocked the westbound lanes of I-84 at first, but passing tow trucks were in a good position to clear the scene and get traffic moving.

(PENDLETON, Ore.) - Tipped semi trailer on I-84 in Oregon, 11-12-07 Severe cross winds were a factor Monday morning police say, in causing an empty semi-trailer to roll onto its side against a guardrail westbound Interstate 84 about 14 miles east of Pendleton.

According to Oregon State Police Trooper Amy Ford, no one was injured in the crash that closed the westbound lanes for a short period of time.

The program's organizers say the idea to start DVDs4Vets came about on Veteran’s Day, 2006.
