Mass Transit in Salem`s Future

Portland and Eugene have arguably better mass transit service. They're supported by business and payroll taxes. I present that it is time for Salem Oregon to follow suit.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Recently we had two property tax levies to support mass transit in Salem fail. The first in May of 2006 because of the double majority provision even though a majority passed it, and the second in November of 2006 by a thousand votes or so, failing outright.

As a result instead of increasing and expanding mass transit services there have been service cuts in September 2006 as well as others this past summer of 2007.

Oregon Woman Arrested for Theft and Mistreatment at Care Home

The total value of items stolen is approximately $25,000.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Corvallis Police made an arrest in a case involving Aggravated Theft and Criminal Mistreatment of residents in a local assisted living facility.

Sergeant Joel Goodwin with Corvallis Police, says the department began an investigation into a report of theft of money and several pieces of jewelry from a resident of Stoneybrook Assisted Living in Corvallis on October 17th.

Oregon City Monitors Specific Crime Trends

The end result for the average citizen of Oregon City is that the chance of being a victim of crime was less in 2006 than in any of the years since 1996.

(OREGON CITY ) - Oregon City officials have been presented with an examination of the nature and extent of crime in their city and the ten-year trend from 1996 – 2005.

Police Chief Gordon Huiras says that for a number of decades, and certainly through the 1970's, 80's, and 90's, Oregon City generally suffered some of the highest crime rates when compared with similar sized cities in Clackamas County and throughout the State.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Following several media stories last week related to Halloween safety and registered sex offenders, Oregon's Sex Offender Inquiry System website recorded its third highest number of "hits" on a single day in 2007, state police say.

Adopted by the 2005 Oregon Legislature, House Bill 3486 required information on predatory and sexually violent dangerous offenders to be posted on a state website.

Pakistan`s Musharraf Will Hold Elections

This comes after a discussion between Musharraf and U.S. President George W. Bush over the situation on Wednesday.
