Klamath Falls Man Arrested in Springfield for Rape and Assault

The suspect was arrested over an alleged incident involving his ex-wife.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) - A Klamath Falls man was arrested by Oregon State Police troopers Tuesday night for allegedly raping and assaulting his estranged wife earlier in the evening.

An OSP spokesman says that around 11:19 PM, Trooper Andy Youngblood spotted a 2002 Peterbuilt truck pulling a semi-trailer northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 198. They were already on the lookout for the truck over the rape and assault allegations.

Air Search Launched for Missing University of Oregon Professor

The CAP has launched one aircraft from Bend that is currently on scene.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - An airplane from Oregon's Civil Air Patrol is currently assisting Sheriff authorities in the search for a missing hiker ,University of Oregon professor Daming Xu.

The CAP is providing a specially equipped communications support aircraft called a HIGHBIRD in support for the ground search teams and an Oregon Army National Guard helicopter assisting in the search efforts today.

7 Kids, Principal Killed During High School Shooting in Finland

Ten children are being treated for light injuries at Hyvinkaeae hospital.

(TUUSULA, Finland) - Seven schoolchildren and their principal were killed after an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at Jokela High School in southern Finland, just hours after a video was posted on YouTube predicting a school massacre.

Armed with a handgun, the teen started shooting during lessons at the secondary school in Tuusula, killing five boys and two girls as well as the principal, police said at a news conference.

American Psychiatric Association Assembly Unanimously Backs Medical Marijuana

A major move by one of the nation's top medical groups, they are backing medical marijuana and they want the federal government to leave doctors alone.

(WASHINGTON, D.C. ) - In a unanimous vote, the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association has approved a strongly worded statement supporting legal protection for patients using medical marijuana with their doctor's recommendation.

"This is a very large and important medical organization, it isn't some fringe group," said Bruce Mirken from the Marijuana Policy Project.

Hulk Hogan`s Son Arrested on Felony Charges

Nicholas Bollea turned himself in to Clearwater Police.

(CLEARWATER, Fla.) - Nicholas Bollea was arrested this morning on a warrant for Reckless Driving Involving Serious Bodily Injury resulting from an August 26th, wreck which seriously injured his passenger, John Graziano III.

Investigators interviewed several witnesses who stated they saw Bollea and Daniel Jacobs racing, before Bollea lost control of the his vehicle and crashed into a tree.

7 Dead, 10 Hurt After Teen Opens Fire at High School in Finland

(TUUSULA, Finland) - Seven people are dead this morning after a gunman opened fire at Jokela High School in southern Finland, just hours after a video was posted on YouTube predicting a school massacre.

Ten people were wounded in the shooting, according to early reports. One of those shot was the school principal.

Oregon Voters Reject Cigarette Tax; Approve Land Use Measure

Benton County voters approve a new property tax levy by a slim margin.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon voters have overwhelmingly defeated Measure 50, the "Healthy Kids" plan. With 64 percent of the statewide vote counted, Measure 50 was being rejected by a margin of 60 percent to 40 percent.

Voters have approved Measure 49, referred to the voters by the Legislature, which is an amended version of Measure 37. Measure 49 was passing with 61 percent in favor after 67 percent of the projected vote was counted.

Pedestrian Struck Down on Freeway in Salem

The pedestrian has been identified as 31-year old Manuel J. Wood of Salem.

(SALEM, Oregon) - A Salem-area man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when he reportedly stepped out in front of the path of a commercial truck southbound Interstate 5 near the South Battlecreek overpass.

All lanes were shut down after the collisions on both northbound and southbound I-5 at mile post 250, just south of the Battle Creek overpass.

Deadly Afghanistan Attack Called Worst in Recent Years

(BAGHLAN, Afghanistan) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has denounced the suicide attack that killed more than 40 civilians and injured scores of others in the northern Afghan town of Baghlan – one of the deadliest the war-torn nation has witnessed in recent years.

Mr. Ban “once again expresses his continuing anxiety regarding the unstable security situation throughout Afghanistan.”
