Discussions Underway Between UN Envoy and Myanmar Officials

Gambari is engaged in a series of talks with officials there in an effort to bring about peace.

(UNITED NATIONS) - U Nyan Win and Ibrahim Gambari United Nations Special Advisor Ibrahim Gambari has returned to Myanmar where he has begun talks with senior officials on speeding up the process of democratization and national reconciliation in the troubled South-East Asian nation.

Mr. Gambari met today with Foreign Minister U Nyan Win to discuss the Government of Myanmar's response, so far, to the expectations of the international community following the recent crisis, according to a press release issued by the UN in Yangon.

12-Year Old Independence Girl Dies in Crash

12-year old Abigail Thompson, was in the right front seat of the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Fatal Crash A 12-year old Independence-area girl died Sunday afternoon when the car she was riding in was struck while crossing Highway 223 at Bridgeport Road south of Dallas. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Dallas Hospital for an evaluation of possible injuries.

Sergeant Dale Young with Oregon State Police says the crash happened today at approximately 12:30 PM, as a 2002 Toyota Corolla four-door driven by 37-year old Roberta Thompson of Independence, was eastbound on Bridgeport Road approaching the intersection with Highway 223, Kings Valley Highway.

Oregon Man Dies After Jumping From Moving Car

Oregon State Police troopers from the Pendleton Area Command believe at this point that alcohol was a contributing factor.

(MILTON FREEWATER, Ore.) - Death investigation Oregon State Police say a Milton Freewater-area man died Friday night after intentionally jumping out of a vehicle driven by his wife.

It happened around 10:45 PM Friday, as 24-year old Raydel Gutierrez was riding in the passenger side of a Chevrolet Blazer driven by his 24-year old wife northbound on Highway 11 near milepost 35.

Guantanamo Bay Detainees Transfer to Afghanistan and Jordan

The departure of the other 80 detainees eligible for transfer is subject to ongoing discussions.

(GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba) - One of the guard towers at Guantanamo Bay The Department of Defense announced today the transfer of eleven detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Eight of the detainees were transferred to Afghanistan, and three to Jordan.

According to a statement from the DoD, "These detainees were determined to be eligible for transfer following a comprehensive series of review processes conducted at Guantanamo."

The Air Force says they will ensure that mission requirements are met for worldwide operations normally accomplished by the F-15.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Missouri Air National Guard F-15C fighter The Air Force suspended non-mission critical F-15 flight operations Saturday after the crash of a Missouri Air National Guard F-15C aircraft November 2nd.

An Air Force spokesperson says the cause of the Missouri accident is still under investigation, however, preliminary findings indicate that a possible structural failure of the aircraft may have occurred.

Primaries Place Two States Above Nation

The only ones in the country who seem distasteful of such a common sense idea are, not surprisingly, Iowa and New Hampshire.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Iowa and New Hampshire are the traditional American states that set the pace for national elections. Is it just me or is the national brouhaha about primary election dates looking like a bunch of piglets racing to the trough at feeding time?

In perennial oneupsmanship New Hampshire's laws state they must be first therefore their date automatically advances every time some other state advances theirs. Iowa, too, seems wedded to the "we are first' concept.

15-Year Old Charged With Assaulting Senior Citizen

The seventy-one year old male was transported to Oregon Health Science University with extensive head injuries.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Police say a 15-year old male was arrested Saturday night after allegedly assaulting a 71-year old man with a baseball bat at the Gresham Central MAX Transit Station.

John Herrera with Gresham Police says that around 9:21 PM Saturday, several Gresham Officers responded to the report of a report of an elderly male that had been beaten with a baseball bat.

Cassandra Ulven with TVF&R says firefighters from the Tigard, Progress, King City and Tualatin fire stations arrived within minutes and knocked down a fire that had started in a trash compactor behind the Value Village, Rite Aid and Woodcraft stores.
