MAX Train Assault Suspect Charged, Victim Recovering

Detectives charged 15-year old Abel Antonie Chavez-Garcia with First Degree Assault, Attempted Murder and First Degree Criminal Mischief.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - A Grand Jury is set to hear the case against a 15-year old juvenile November 9th, who was arrested after an attack with a baseball bat on a 71-year old man last week in Portland.

The attack happened near the Gresham Central Transit Center at 400 NE 8th. 71-year old Laurie Lee Chilcote of Sandy was riding the same eastbound train as the suspect and the attack occurred shortly after both got off the train, police said.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Two Salem-area men died early Saturday morning when their northbound vehicle drifted onto the right extended shoulder on Interstate 5 adjacent to the Santiam Rest Area and crashed into the back of a parked semi-trailer.

Hunters Reminded of Oregon ATV Laws

Hunters that use ATVs are also being reminded of new laws coming into effect Jan. 1, 2008.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Hunters in Oregon are being reminded of the dangers of driving an ATV with a loaded weapon.

So far the season, nine hunters have been cited by Oregon State Police for driving an ATV with a loaded weapon. Ten were cited for driving ATV's on closed or prohibited roads, while another hunter was cited for driving an ATV in violation of posted restrictions meant to protect wildlife habitat. A total of 44 hunters have been cited for unlawful ATV use this year. In 2006, Oregon State Police cited 125 people for ATV violations and warned over 1,500.
