11-Year Old Boy Accidentally Shot in Vancouver

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff's Office respond to a report of an accidental shooting involving a child.

(VANCOUVER, Wa.) - Sheriff's deputies in La Center, Washington say an 11-year old boy will survive an accidental shooting that took place when a 15-year old relative pulled the trigger of a .38 caliber pistol that they all believed was inoperable. It happened Monday night just after 8:00 PM.

Police say preliminary investigation indicates that three boys, ages 15, 11, and 11 were playing in a back bedroom at a house on NE Cerveny Drive, southeast of La Center when the shooting happened.

“After carefully studying the way states across the spectrum handle executions, it has become crystal clear that the process is deeply flawed,” said Stephen F. Hanlon, chair of the ABA Death Penalty Moratorium Implementation Project.

Shooting in Keizer Leads to Several Arrests

Several gunshots were exchanged between individuals in or near the 4900 block of Wolf Street North early Sunday.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Keizer Police say one of their officers heard several gun shots in the area of 4900 Wolf Street North early Sunday morning just before 1:00 AM. Several people were arrested as a result.

At least two private residences, a local business, and a stop sign were damaged by the bullets. Investigators are still evaluating the physical evidence at this time to determine the caliber of bullets, and how many shots were fired.

Giusto Investigation Draft Summary to be Released

The group that trains Oregon police says they are concerned about releasing an incomplete document.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) will release the preliminary draft investigation summary in the Sheriff Bernie Giusto case to the Oregonian and the Portland Tribune this week, following a pair of official public records requests from the print media sources.

The agency's decision to release the draft document was made after consulting with the Oregon Department of Justice to interpret state public records law.

While I was there I spent time on forward combat bases, I went on infantry foot patrols, flew in helicopters, and witnessed levels of disparity that were hard to imagine.

But the only time I thought I was going to vomit in that faraway land was when a very strange American soldier found it necessary to tell me about the Afghan vampires. Call it a coincidence, maybe it was the coffee, I will never know for sure, but twenty minutes with this guy sent me running for the men's room.

While that is good news for the disaster stricken residents, fire officials acknowledge that increasing winds could breathe new life into the fires and the threat is not over.

California Fires Far From Over

More Santa Ana Winds are expected in the coming days.

(SAN DIEGO) - Tired Firefighters in Southern California are getting a break, but a great deal of uncertainty remains as seven wildfires continue to destroy trees and vegetation and property.

2,000 homes have burned as the seasonal Santa Ana winds fanned flames throughout several counties. A break from the offshore gusts this weekend helped firefighters who now learn that the hot mountain winds are likely to kick back up in speed in the coming days.

Dallas Man Dies in Crash Sunday

Preliminary information provided to investigators was that an unidentified southbound vehicle may have crossed into the northbound lane prior to the victim losing control.

(DALLAS, ORE.) - Police say a Dallas-area man died Sunday night from injuries sustained in a late afternoon single vehicle crash on Highway 223 south of Dallas.

Oregon State Police troopers investigating the crash are looking into the possibility that an unidentified vehicle may have been a contributing factor.

UN Urges End to Attacks Against Aid Convoys

As winter approaches in Afghanistan, UN officials ask for the safe passage of supplies.

(KABUL, Afghanistan) - With the onset of winter in Afghanistan expected to cut remote regions off from aid deliveries, the United Nations Assistance Mission there (UNAMA) today called on warring factions to allow safe passage and access for humanitarian workers delivering relief aid.

“The next six weeks will be crucial for our humanitarian efforts,” said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tom Koenigs.
