School Bus Crash Injures Two Albany Women

None of the children aboard the bus were injured in the early morning crash.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Two Albany area women were injured Tuesday morning after they crashed into each other and then struck an Albany School District school bus on Highway 34 at the intersection of Oakville Road in Linn County.

The bus was stopped on Highway 34 at the Oakville Road intersection waiting to make a left hand turn from Highway 34 onto Oakville Road when it was struck. The bus was not moving at the time of the crash.

Gasoline Prices Dipping Nationwide as Oregon`s Rises

Diesel prices...especially in Oregon... are also on the rampage. Drivers are paying up 30 cents more in the past month, to $3.34/gal.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The national average is down, but Oregon's average cost for gas has gone up. At $2.90 a gallon for regular, Oregon's statewide average gasoline price has jumped from 11th to 8th highest in the nation.

"While the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline went down a half cent to $2.76, Oregon's statewide average jumped upward by three cents to $2.90. Topping off that news, crude oil hit an all-time high $87 per barrel Tuesday morning."

(SALEM, Ore.) - For some, the most intimate contact they have with the poor is pulling over into the far lane as they pass a homeless person on a street corner. The poor, however, are not defined simply by their lack of money.

“There is a very definite culture that comes with being economically disadvantaged,” said David Hardesty, an instructor in adult basic education and GED preparation at Chemeketa Community College. “Poverty is something not as obvious as race, religion, or disability. As an instructor in ABE/GED, I see a lot of students who come from generational poverty.”

Portland Hospital Criticized Over Employment Practices

UN Calls Recent Arrests in Myanmar ‘Extremely Disturbing’

The UN is calling on the Myanmar Government to release all political detainees, including those arrested during the demonstrations, and to allow access by Red Cross officials to those in detention.

(UNITED NATIONS) - The United Nations Special Envoy to Myanmar today urged the Government to halt the use of force against dissidents, calling recent reports of arrests, interrogations and intimidation “extremely disturbing.”

The reports “run counter to the spirit of mutual engagement between the United Nations and Myanmar,” Mr. Gambari said today at a joint press conference in Bangkok with Thai Foreign Minister Nitya Pibulsonggram. “These actions must stop at once.”

Portland Will Vote to Legalize Marijuana

Petition signature collecting starts next Friday. 27,255 signatures are required by July 7th to get Measure 8 on next year's ballot.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon could be the next major U.S. city to legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana. Measure 8's ballot caption explains that it, "Assets criminal penalty exemption for possession of marijuana in Portland."

The measure would allow possession of less than an ounce of marijuana for people over 21. Possession of less than an ounce at this time is a misdemeanor. The ballot measure would not decriminalize pot, activist Parker Bell told reporters, it would legalize it, which means that the measure would bring commerce and money into it.

Delta Plane Hits Bird; Lands Safely in Salem

The plane was able to depart Salem on it's way to Salt Lake City after about a two hour delay.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - A Delta Airlines Bombardier CRJ-200 operated by SkyWest Airlines had some "foul" trouble today while landing at Salem's McNary Field.

As the plane was descending into Salem, one of the jets General Electric CF34-3B1 turbofans engines sucked in a small bird, fortunately the plane landed safely.
