Two Mammals, Bitten by Shark, Found on Oregon Beaches

Some great white sharks do wander around the waters off Oregon, but not too many, officials said.

(SEASIDE, Ore. ) - oregon sea lion It’s been a busy weekend on the north Oregon coast, with two mammals washed up with appear to be major shark bites.

Friday, a dead harbor seal drifted onto the beach at Seaside, with a two-foot chunk taken out of its back. And since Saturday, an extremely unhappy California Sea Lion has been resting on a beach with a sizable wound.

Task Force Meets to Discuss Salem River Crossing

The 21-citizen Task force on Salem River Crossing Project meets October 17th and October 24th.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem, Oregon traffic A task force comprising area stakeholders considering the Salem River Crossing Project will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, October 17th and again on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Pringle Hall, 606 Church Street SE in Salem.

The Task Force will discuss the results of the evaluation for the 13 recommended crossing alternatives. The evaluation includes factors such as residential and business impacts, congestion relief and cost. Task force meetings are open to the public and include time for public comment.

Oregon National Guard Supports TOPOFF Exercise

This is the fourth TOPOFF exercise since the drill was established by the Clinton Administration and Congress.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Multi-agency disaster drill held in Salem in 2005 The Oregon National Guard is supporting first responders during the biggest terrorism exercise ever staged nationally. Operation TOPOFF 4 began today and continues through October 19th in Portland, Oregon. The exercise will allow local, state, and federal agencies to test their abilities to respond to a staged terrorist attack.

The Oregon National Guard 102nd Civil Support Team will support first responders by using equipment to identify and monitor radioactive material. Twenty two members of the Civil Support Team will take part in the exercise.

TOPOFF 4 Exercise Begins in Portland

TOPOFF 4 will involve more than 15,000 participants from federal, state, territorial, and local governments, as well as private-sector organizations and non-governmental organizations.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - nuclear bomb From October 15th-19th, Oregon will test the ability of state and local governments to prevent, respond to and recover from an attack that uses a radiological dispersal device (RDD), commonly called a “dirty bomb.”

Portland will host the exercise, which is one of the largest civilian exercises ever conducted.

Skeletal Remains Found by Hunter Near Albany

Preliminary findings indicate the victim may be a Caucasian male who has been deceased from two to 12 months

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Skeletal remains were discovered by a hunter in a remote area of Linn County Saturday afternoon. Sheriff Tim Mueller in Linn County says the human skeleton was found near McCully Mountain Road, south of Lyons. Mueller say deputies responded to the area and confirmed that it was in fact human.

"Linn County Sheriff's Detectives and members of the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Post conducted an evidence search on Sunday and recovered the remains, which were then sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Portland."

Police Seek Information on Copper Theft

Police believe the suspects were traveling to remote locations to obtain copper for eventual sale to scrap dealers or smelters.

(CHRISTMAS VALLEY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Oregon State Police say a trooper stopped a pickup truck this afternoon near Christmas Valley laden with suspected stolen copper wire. OSP Fish & Wildlife Trooper Curtis Weaver was on routine patrol around 1:20 PM when he stopped a black Mazda pickup which was nearly dragging its trailer hitch on the highway.

The pickup was westbound on Christmas Valley Highway near US 395 about three to four miles east of Christmas Valley in rural Lake County. Police say the reason for the pickup being overweight was that the bed was full of coiled copper wire, the origin of which remains unknown.

Oregon Small Plane Flies Over President`s Ranch; Pilot Arrested

Authorities would not say who the pilot is and if he has any ties to Oregon.

(CRAWFORD, Texas) - LANCAIR LEGACY FG The Secret Service says they arrested a pilot on Sunday, after flying his small plane into restricted airspace over the President's Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Authorities arrested him after he landed at the Addison Airport, just North of Dallas, a spokesperson for the Secret Service said. President Bush was at the ranch at the time of the incident.

One Man Killed in Crash Near Dallas

No enforcement action is anticipated.

(DALLAS, Ore. ) - fatal crash image One driver was killed and another driver escaped injury in a T-bone collision at the intersection of Bridgeport Road and the Kings Valley Highway south of Dallas.

At approximately 7:10 PM, 49-year-old Daniel Jordan, from Falls City, was driving westbound on Bridgeport Road in a 1993 red Ford Escort when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with the Kings Valley Highway.
