`Most Wanted` Oregon Fugitive Arrested

Georgia Weise was the subject of a recent Salem-News.com story over her wanted status.

(TUALATIN, Ore.) - One of Washington County's most wanted fugitives is in jail after being arrested by the Tualatin Police on Sunday. Police say that Sunday at about 1:24 PM, Tualatin Police Officer Eric Hermann received a call to check on a suspicious car parked in the 9300 block of SW Ibach Court in Tualatin.

Officer Hermann responded and reported finding a silver 2003 Toyota van parked on the side of the street. The van had no license plates. Officer Hermann stated that he could see a person sleeping inside the van.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - As American defense contractor "Blackwater" struggles with accusations of random killings in Iraq, an Australian group involved in a similar situation shows a totally different approach in their handling of the problem.

The Australian security company "Unity Resources Group" fired on a car Tuesday carrying two Iraqi women, killing both. The team says it took fired the fatal shots because they thought the car may have been moving in for a suicide bombing attack.

(SALEM, Ore.) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today hailed the awarding of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and urged governments to build on the momentum they have generated by adopting a new set of binding commitments to contain greenhouse gas emissions.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban paid tribute to Mr. Gore's “exceptional commitment and conviction, as an example of the crucial role that individuals and civil society can play in encouraging multilateral responses to global issues.”

Collision with Deer Leads to Motorcyclist Death

Troopers from the Burns worksite are investigating the crash.

(BURNS, Ore.) - A motorcyclist died after striking a deer and being struck by a pickup truck in rural Harney County last night. Police say the crash happened around 7:10 PM, as 46-year old Howard Pries of Bend, was riding his 1985 Honda Goldwing motorcycle eastbound on US 20, about five miles east of Burns.

Police say his bike struck a deer in the roadway. The collision separated Mr. Pries from his motorcycle; he was then struck by a westbound Dodge Dakota pickup which was operated by 42-year old Dawn Salsbery of Stanfield. Neither Ms. Salsbery nor her two passengers were injured.

Mr. Church often piles praise upon the SJ Forums participants, but refuses to admit that the SJ Forums censor squads effectively mold and control that which occurs in those forums through subtle, and often quite non-subtle, means of intimidation, inconsistent moderation, and outright censorship.

Domestic Altercation Leads to Pedestrian Death on I-5 Near Creswell

One southbound lane and the Creswell on-ramp were closed for about three hours during the scene investigation.

(CRESSWELL, Ore.) - A Springfield man was struck and killed shortly after midnight on I-5 near Creswell following a domestic altercation. Lane County Deputies were en route to a related domestic assault call at TJ's Restaurant in Creswell when it happened.

23-year old Scott Phillips was reportedly in a domestic altercation before walking to I-5 at the Creswell Interchange and sat on the cement barrier adjacent to the southbound lanes.

Amity Soldier Prepares for Deployment to Iraq‏

While this is his first deployment in support of Iraqi Freedom, he has been involved behind the scenes in the deployments of 6 units since 2001.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon Army National Guard mobilized an aviation battalion today in Portland Air National Guard Base for service in Iraq.

First time deployee Sgt First Class Marcus Merrick, of Amity, Oregon, is the Unit Operations Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of A- Company, 641 Aviation Battalion out of Portland. He takes a pragmatic approach to the mobilization. "It's a Double-edged sword. We are going into harm's way, but the deployment location is relatively safe. You have to be careful what you wish for."
