Site of Peacekeeper Attack in Darfur Burned Down

The town was the site of a deadly attack on AU peacekeepers just a week ago that left nearly a dozen people dead and wounded many more, with several people also reported as missing.

(UNITED NATIONS) - Children of Darfur The South Darfur town of Haskanita that witnessed a deadly attack against African Union (AU) peacekeepers last weekend has been burned down, the United Nations Mission in Sudan reported today.

Haskanita, “which is currently under the control of the Government, was completely burned down, except for a few buildings,” UNMIS said today, after conducting a joint assessment mission to the area yesterday with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The White House says this trade agreement, which has been approved by the United States Congress and entered into force for all other participating countries, would expand Costa Rica's access to the U.S. market, safeguard that access under international law, attract U.S. and other investment, and link Costa Rica to some of the most dynamic economies of our Hemisphere.

Crash on Interstate-5 Injures Three Motorcyclists

The serious injury motorcycle crash happened on Interstate 5 north of Salem‏. The cyclists were enroute to a funeral

(SALEM, Ore.) - Motorcycles in the Salem, Oregon freeway crash, 10-7-07 Three people were injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday on the freeway north of Salem. One of the riders was injured critically police say, in the multiple motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon on northbound Interstate 5.

Investigators say it happened around 1:35 PM, when a large group of motorcyclists were northbound on Interstate 5 as part of an organized ride to a reported funeral in the Portland area.

UPDATE: Motorcycles Crash on Freeway North of Salem‏

All northbound lanes Interstate 5 near milepost 265 reopened following a multiple motorcycle crash this afternoon.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Three people were injured, one critically, in a multiple motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon on northbound Interstate 5, about two miles north of Brooks. Police say names are not available for release.

Police say today at approximately 1:35 PM, a large group of motorcyclists were northbound on Interstate 5 as part of an organized ride that started in the Medford area. During the ride, other motorcycles were joining in.

State Releases Bucky Into The Wild

“We believe this is the best outcome for the deer,” said Ron Anglin, wildlife division administrator.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - oregon deer Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists and a department veterinarian have released the black-tailed buck that was illegally held by a Molalla family into the wild.

The Bucky was released into the Bull Run Watershed which drains about 102 square miles of forested landscape and is home to almost 250 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Prior to the buck’s release, state wildlife veterinarians performed a vasectomy to keep him from passing on genes with his mother’s genetic deformities.

The owners of Lefty's on State Street annouced the closure on their website. Karen and John Graham opened the pizza parlor and music venue, popular with blues and jazz musicians, in 2003.

Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis Succumbs to Breast Cancer

She is survived by her husband, Chuck Davis; two sons; and a granddaughter.

(RICHMOND, Va) - Jo Ann Davis Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis (R-Va) died at her Gloucester home Saturday morning after a courageous two-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57.

Davis was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and had a re-occurrence earlier this year. Davis had been receiving breast cancer treatment at Duke University and just recently had received positive reports on her condition.

Death Investigation in Pleasant Valley

Police say a 25-year old man was shot to death, and there man be other gunshot victims.

(PLEASANT VALLEY, Ore.) - Death Investigation Deputies called out to a reported shooting discovered the deceased body of a 25-year old, male gunshot victim at the Pleasant Valley Grange Hall at 17115 SE Foster Road this morning shortly after 4:00 AM.

Multnomah Deputy Travis Gullberg says it has been confirmed that there were two additional victims from the shooting this morning at the Pleasant Valley grange hall.

Ghost Hunting: An Increasingly Popular Interest

Real or not real? Ghosts are something some people believe exist, others scoff at the notion. But have they ever had to live in a haunted house?

(SALEM, Ore.) - Bush impeachment protestors "Ghosthunting" has an undeniable appeal as a word, but it probably isn't the best description for those who investigate the undead in earnest.

If in fact ghosts do exist, then they are the remnant of a living, breathing person, who possessed thoughts and feelings and need and demands. Alive or dead, they deserve our respect, and that often is the best tool and basis of understanding for a person who investigates haunted locations.

Is Presidential Impeachment a Possibility?

Some ask why not just wait it out? After all it is just some 16 months or so until this administration is removed due if nothing else to term limits. But I say that misses the point. The point being what is acceptable and what is not.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Bush impeachment line I get into quite a few discussions lately regarding the subject of impeachment of President George W Bush (aka 'Shrub' to me and others) and Vice-President Dick Cheney. It might have something to do with my "Impeach Cheney?" hat I usually wear. But the subject is a serious one.

Impeachment is not to be taken lightly, is not a mechanism to get a 'do over' on an election you lost and it is not supposed to be a mechanism of political or personal vengeance.
